Pearson Senior Cloud and Hosting Services Engineer in Durham, North Carolina

Join our team and elevate your impact: We're looking for a Senior SRE with Kubernetes expertise to take ownership and accountability in driving our infrastructure forward. The Senior Site Reliability Engineer is an advanced role responsible for leading complex projects that enhance Pearson's system reliability, availability, and performance.

This individual will act as a mentor to junior engineers, drive initiatives for operational efficiency, and align SRE efforts with Pearson's overarching objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Alignment: Align SRE activities with Pearson's business goals, understanding the impact of reliability on objectives.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives that enhance reliability and operational efficiency.

  • Incident Management: Lead major incident responses with strong crisis management skills.

  • Automation & Innovation: Implement automation solutions to boost efficiency and SRE best practices.

  • Collaboration: Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams and simplify technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

  • Learning & Adaptability: Stay updated on industry trends and quickly adapt to new technologies.

  • Cultural Leadership: Promote SRE culture with blameless post-mortems, automation-first mindset, and data-driven decisions.

  • Mentorship: Mentor SREs, guiding their professional growth.

  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrate deep knowledge across SRE domains like cloud computing, networking, and automation.

  • Architectural Strategy: Contribute to strategic direction and long-term planning for the SRE team.

  • Technical Mastery: Master Pearson's systems and technology stack, solving complex challenges.

  • Consistent Excellence: Maintain high performance and deliver results consistently.

  • Strategic Projects: Lead large-scale initiatives focused on reliability, scalability, and performance.

Skills & Qualities:

  • Proficiency in Pearson's technology stack: Kubernetes, AWS Services, Terraform, Terragrunt

  • Skilled in Python, Go, Bash, and other languages for infrastructure automation and system management

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and collaboration abilities

  • Resilient and adaptable in fast-paced environments

  • Commitment to continual learning and skill enhancement

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Software Engineering

  • 5+ years of SRE experience on complex projects

  • Established SRE standards with peer recognition

  • Strong collaboration with internal customers and partners

  • Experience working across engineering levels and management

  • Proven mentor and coach to teammates and partners
