Pearson Senior Content Developer - Social Studies in United States
The Assessment Services team at GED ® Testing Service (GEDTS) is seeking a qualified individual who will contribute to the delivery of high-quality products for our adult learners. The successful candidate will work with the existing team of content specialists in all areas of high school level Social Studies assessment development, including item development, test construction, forms review, data analysis, and all aspects of the GED ® Social Studies test development.
*Responsibilities: *
Facilitate, maintain, and oversee content development in Social Studies
Develop, review, and edit complex prompts and items including multiple-choice and technology-enhanced items
Lead activities for item development, forms development, and special projects
Ensure appropriate high school end-of-course rigor and complexity in items
Lead, manage, and develop item writer training and assist in recruiting writers
Facilitate, and provide expertise at virtual customer meetings (e.g., content, fairness, etc.)
Participate in test construction, test forms review, and data review activities
Complete content alignments between GED ® Assessment Targets/Indicators and other content standards
Develop and update specifications and content validity guides
Ensure the accuracy of item metrics such as content coding and keying
Complete bank analyses and item development plans
Use content authoring and technology tools to construct, track, and edit items
Provide references in support of the use of each item (i.e., rationales for the correct response and incorrect responses); provide source references and copyright research as needed
Participate in planning and scheduling activities
Work closely with the Director of Test Development, project managers, other subject area content leads, psychometricians, and Pearson/GEDTS groups
Conduct program and industry-related research as required
Support cross-content GED ® initiatives as needed
Support and collaborate with existing Social Studies team
Perform other duties as assigned
Travel is minimal
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree with a content focus in a social studies discipline
Minimum 3 years' experience teaching social studies, high school EOC
Minimum 5 years' assessment industry experience creating student assessments that are aligned to high school equivalent Social Studies learning standards
Experience performing all phases of assessment development including item and passage writing, editing, data review, test building, and providing feedback for continual improvement of test development
Experience writing, reviewing, and editing complex items aligned to high school equivalency learning standards
Experience evaluating items for content validity and eliminating construct irrelevant variances with an ability to teach those skills to others
Experience writing complex texts required. In-depth understanding of how to build evidence-based and complex arguments
Experience verifying facts, public domain texts, and determining the validity of sources
Excellent skills in grammar, editing, and writing
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of assessment best practices
Strong knowledge of universal design and diversity/inclusion best practices
Ability to lead virtual committee review meetings that evaluate items and passages for content validity and fairness/sensitivity
Ability to represent GEDTS and present at conferences
Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate multiple activities and adapt to unexpected events and changing priorities
Strong computer skills and broad knowledge of common software programs, strong technology skills, and the confidence necessary to learn unfamiliar programs
Ability to work collaboratively and as a sole contributor, including the ability to provide unique solutions to simple, complex, and nuanced problems
Ability to think adaptively and respond to feedback
Ability to hold oneself accountable to high standards
Strong understanding and appreciation of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in adult education and in all aspects of content development
Strong understanding and appreciation of our role in adult education
Qualifications Preferred:
Master's degree with a content focus in social studies
Experience with state standards for social studies
Experience developing RLA assessments
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $70,000 - $75,000.
