Scorer Job Description

Education, Skills and Knowledge

  • Conferred a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited College or University.

  • Eligible to work in the United States.

  • U.S. residency.

  • Teaching experience is preferred.

  • Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse).

  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment required.

  • Ability to score student responses from home with the necessary computer, Internet provider, and telephone connection. For security reasons, readers may not work from institutional computer labs.

Basic Purpose and Objectives

  • Scorers will work in a home environment, evaluating student responses to subject-related open-ended questions according to a customer supplied scoring guide.

  • Scorers must qualify after completion of training in order to continue scoring.

  • Compensation will be either hourly or performance based. Performance based pay is based on a combination of performance indicators, including quality and productivity.

Working Conditions

  • Home scorers must comply to the minimal systems needed:

  • Windows: XP, Vista, 7, and 8 (in Desktop Mode only)

  • Mac: Mac OS X 10.6 - 10.8

  • Monitor capable of a screen resolution above 1024 x 768 is needed.

  • Some projects will require the ability to play audio.

  • Currently do not support mobile operating systems (Android, Apple iOS, Chrome, and Windows RT).


Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates student responses to open-ended questions in a reliable manner and scores according to customer supplied scoring guide

  • Successfully internalizes training and customer scoring guide

  • May be required to pass qualifying test before scoring

  • Must be able to put aside personal biases and apply scoring guide according to customer requirements

  • Must be committed to working the duration of the project

  • Meets rate and reliability requirements established for project
