Pearson IP Litigation Counsel in United States

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day strategic and legal support across multiple areas related to all phases of dispute resolution, investigations and litigation, including fact finding, analysis, and case management

  • Must be able to draft and meaningfully contribute to pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and settlement agreements in a timely fashion.

  • Prepping and taking and/or defending depositions.

  • Evaluating and Responding to subpoenas

  • Assist with complex discovery matters, including but not limited to data identification, collection, preservation and disposition; cross-jurisdictional privacy concerns; document review workflow; and eDiscovery technology and tools and document review.

  • Interact with senior managers and employees in all departments across the company to provide legal support on disputes and litigation.

  • Support, and collaborate and take on projects, as needed with, other areas including intellectual property, anti-piracy, contract review and negotiation.

  • Develop relationships within functional teams as a key point of contact.

  • Prioritizing a busy workload based on deadlines and degrees of importance of tasks.

  • Work productively with outside counsel to ensure Pearson is receiving the highest quality legal representation, including budget management, the day-to-day running of matters, overall strategy, written work, and oral advocacy.

  • Proactively find solutions to complex probems and addressing and advising on risk mitigation and dispute avoidance

  • Engage in other activities and/or special assignments as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Juris Doctor degree from a top U.S. law school with a record of strong academic performance

  • Admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and able to qualify as authorized in house counsel a appropriate

  • 3-4 years of work of litigation experience at law firm, including with e-discovery, leading teams to successful outcomes. In-house and/or IP experience a plus.

  • Excellent written, analytical and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have very strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Must be self-disciplined and be able to create a structure for yourself to work within by prioritizing workload and taking ownership of completion of assigned tasks. You must work well independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to multi-task and maintain work quality.

  • Desire to strive for excellence, to learn, and problem solve

  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Ability to think critically/logically, overlay organization on complex tasks and problem solve.

  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint. Must be comfortable with analyzing and using large data sets.
