Strategic Lead, Business Intelligence

About The Team

The role will head up the Business Intelligence (BI) Team in the UK Vocational Qualifications (VQ) division.

The BI Team plays a key role in delivering analytical support to all departments within the division. This includes customer, product and learner analytics, operational MI, commercial insight and regulatory data returns.

Both the technology stack and business processes are highly complex and nuanced, with multiple millions of rows of data created each year. With a thorough understanding of this landscape the BI Team produce insight, self-serve dashboards and data extracts which support business growth and has led to a data-driven culture.

About the Role

This is a hybrid-working role, split between home working and our London Headquarters on the Strand. The BI Analysts are in the London HQ office on average 3 days a week.

Team Management:

  • Responsible for leading and managing a team of data analysts, providing guidance, direction and support in their day-to-day activities, ensuring continuous upskilling and working in an agile manner.

  • Responsible for monitoring and planning resource requirements on the team, balancing urgent ad-hoc requests with larger projects, and managing business expectations throughout.

  • Responsible for hiring, onboarding and training of new data analysts.

  • Ownership of the budget for Data & Business Intelligence

Data Provision:

  • Responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely data insights, dashboards, extracts and regulatory returns, across all departments in the VQ division.

  • Effectively communicate these insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Innovate and continue to evolve analytics including completing the rollout of AI / ML technologies.

  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of all data analytics, including:

  • Understand the constantly changing business & technology landscapes to ensure accuracy of insights.

  • Maintenance and rationalisation of existing dashboards, monitoring usage stats

  • New data automation and self-serve initiatives to remove manual overhead.

  • Understand latest trends and best practices in data analytics

  • Work as part of the VQ Leadership team to understand and support future business strategy and roadmaps.

  • Work with other data analysts and super-users within VQ to ensure joined up analytics.

  • Work alongside other data teams outside of VQ to align on RACIs, remove duplication, evaluate new data opportunities, and share best practices.

  • Eulogise data and promote self-service and democratisation across the division.

  • Collaborate with Technology to optimise data infrastructure to enable better insights.

  • Identification and acquisition of external datasets to understand market trends.

  • Responsible for data policies, controls, and ethics - including sharing of sensitive learner data, contracts with 3rd parties and data sharing agreements.

About You :

Essential requirements:

  • Prior experience in a data-related Leadership or Senior Analyst role

  • Track record in delivery of data solutions

  • Prior experience with, or leading a team with data extraction and visualisation tools.

  • Understanding of UK Education System

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the Education sector.

  • Experience working with vast and highly complex data

  • Experience working with data warehouses.

  • Experience leading a neurodiverse team

  • Professional or higher-level qualification in a numerate or data-focused subject
