Pearson Responsible Procurement Analyst in United Kingdom

The Responsible Procurement team is the driving force behind our supplier facing ESG strategy and delivery. Our suppliers play a huge role in Pearson meeting its ESG commitments through the social and environmental impact of the products and services we buy. Our purpose is to create the framework we need to help Pearson make data- driven decisions and ensure we work with partners that are aligned to our goals.

Reporting to the Head of Responsible Procurement, the successful candidate will play a key role in creating and delivering tools, resources, reporting insights and education on all aspects of our ESG strategy and acting as a subject matter expert to a broad range of business stakeholders.

Key Requirements

In-depth understanding of relevant sustainability regulations, codes of conduct, and ethical sourcing guidelines (e.g UK SDR, EU Regulation on deforestation-free products, EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, Modern Slavery Act, UN Global Compact) and stay informed about evolving industry standards and regulations related to responsible procurement.

Good understanding of sustainable procurement principles , including social, environmental, and ethical considerations (e.g. due diligence on human right standards within supply chain, implementation of diverse supply chain strategy, supply chain carbon impact monitoring and mitigation)

Strong analytical skills to interpret sustainability data, trends, and metrics, and ability to compile and communicate accurate data for sustainability reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, the IFRS ISSB S1& S2 reporting standard on sustainability and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) requirements.

Proficiency in leveraging sustainability rating platforms, like EcoVadis, the Science-Based Targets initiative, CSRHub, and The Book Chain Project, to assess supplier sustainability performance and help the business take sustainable sourcing decisions.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform detailed analysis of supplier carbon emissions and maturity data to improve on scope 3 data quality and move towards supplier- specific emissions factors

  • Provide support and education to business stakeholders (including Procurement category teams) on sustainability regulations, requirements, and risks

  • Monitor supplier performance and provide education and recommendations for growth and remediation

  • Collaborate with internal ESG leads to ensure actionable alignment of Procurement policies and initiatives with Pearson corporate standards and targets

  • Support category teams with analysis of supplier RFP responses to provide insight on suppliers' sustainability credentials

  • Provide input and support on Responsible Procurement practices for Pearson customer bids and external awards/certifications

  • Work with third party providers to build a broad picture of suppliers' sustainability performance and maturity

  • High proficiency in Excel to manage compliance data and provide reporting and insights .
