Pearson Director of Technology - B2C mobile app in Spain

Purpose:

Mondly is part of our English Language Learning division. Mondly offers high quality online learning in English and 40 other languages to consumers across the world via its mobile and web apps, virtual reality and augmented reality products It has had 100 million downloads worldwide, offering professional and personal language learning in a combination of 1300+ different language pairs

About the role:

Do you want to be part of the biggest digital transformation in the EdTech world and help people worldwide to learn languages and realize their dreams? We are looking for a Director of Technology to ramp up our SW development team and drive the continuous evolution of the Mondly products. You will lead teams of technical experts who have the same ambition as you: to build top software products that will change the way people learn using technology.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Understand the current trends and market needs in mobile apps development, and collaborate with Product Management and stakeholders to define and drive a vision and roadmap

  • Efficiently manage on-site and remote software development teams to deliver applications adopting the latest technologies and development practices

  • Ramp up and lead teams of highly talented web developers, mobile developers, VR/AR developers, data engineers, infrastructure engineers, software testers, and technical support

  • Embed DevSecOps principles in the software development operating model

  • Modernize the way software is delivered and applications roadmaps are managed

  • Partner with Product managers to align on the strategic directions and delivery plans

  • Own on time, on quality, and on budget delivery of projects

  • Create an environment of continuous improvement through mentoring, feedback, and coaching

  • Drive innovation within a fast-paced agile environment

  • Maintain a pipeline of demands for digital solutions, prioritize them, and drive their rollout and deployment

  • Ensure security and compliance of global and local digital solutions in the managed portfolio

  • Manage budget and contract for external development needs

  • Recruit, retain, and develop top talent

Qualifications & Skills :

  • Broad experience leading full-stack teams in mobile development in the B2C world

  • Proven success developing and delivering complex, scalable, and high-quality solutions for B2C products

  • Prior experience as a Software Development Manager or Director of Technology at an established, high-growth technology company. Ideally you have served as an engineering leader in a successful, dynamic startup (startup experience is highly desired).

  • Strong experience in implementing Scrum/Agile methodologies

  • Solid organizational skills, being able to create an organization structure from scratch and scale it as needed

  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies and software engineering methodologies

  • Ability to build agile and high-performing teams that can deliver business value in a short time

  • Relationship management skills and the ability to use them to drive value both within and externally

  • Robust decision-making - based on evidence and data

  • Experience in working with multinational, multicultural, and distributed teams

  • Advanced English, both in spoken and written communication
