Senior Learning Designer (NSW)

We are looking to expand our current learning design team and are seeking a Senior Learning Designer, based in southern NSW, for a 2 year fixed-term, full time role.

The Senior Learning Designer is responsible for undertaking curriculum and course design and development projects within Digital Learning Services.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Researching and designing curriculum, researching and writing/scripting storyboards for both content and interactive exercises

  • Creating wireframes

  • Developing assessment strategies, creating or revising assessment tasks

  • Building content into academic learning management systems

  • Preparing facilitator guides and providing expert advice to client contacts on aspects of curriculum or course design

  • Coaching and mentoring academics and clients on online or blended course development and maintenance

  • Coordinating small projects, reviewing the work of other team members, coaching or mentoring to other team members.


  • An undergraduate qualification in Instructional/Learning Design, Education or related field. Equivalent years of education and successful work experience in Learning Design or another closely related field, with ID/LD certification, will be considered.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing and developing online and/or blended learning in the post-compulsory education or corporate sectors.

  • Specific experience in designing authentic assessments and engaging online learning

  • Specific experience is designing curriculum

  • Knowledge of pedagogical and andragogical learning principles and other notable learning design philosophies, strategies and theories, and the ability to apply those concepts.

  • Ability to articulate learning objectives that are practical, focused, concise and measurable.

  • Analytical, logic and problem–solving skills for analysing and identifying user needs, proposing solutions and logically organising complex information.

  • Ability to transform complex bodies of information into professionally designed, engaging and effective programmes.

  • Ability to work on complex projects within (sometimes aggressive) timeframes, to multi-task & continually prioritise changing project tasks/deliverables and meet deadlines.

  • Experience in taking the lead in small – medium learning design projects

  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially coaching and communications skills, including being able to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms and encouraging others to learn new and/or different ways of doing things.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with SME’s, project managers and collaborate both in person and long distance.

  • Knowledge and experience with common academic Learning Management Systems (Moodle, Brightspace, Blackboard and Canvas)

  • Familiarity with relevant computer programs and course delivery platforms including intermediate-advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, general proficiency in Visio

  • Flexibility in work hours where required to attend and participate in meetings outside of standard working hours

  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, self-direction, and motivation
