We are seeking enthusiastic Frontend Software Engineer passionate about building global solutions. You will be a member of the Studio team and will be responsible for working and collaborating with local/ global team members, as well as product owners, project stakeholders and subject matter experts, to build and deliver highly interactive and incredibly rich learning experiences on Pearson learning platforms.

As a Learning Applications Engineer, you will utilize your knowledge of HTML5, JS (ES6) and CSS, as well as new emerging technologies to build browser (mobile, tablet, desktop) based learning simulations, games and interactions. The content you create will be viewed and consumed by millions of learners worldwide and is vital to the success of the organization’s ambitious digital strategy.

A sample of libraries, frameworks, tools and technologies you will make use of are: ReactJS/ Redux, styled-components/ Less, Jest/ Mocha, Backbone, GraphQL & Apollo, Webpack, Storybook.

Responsibilities include;

  • Build and deliver interactive browser-based learning experiences to a high level of polish

  • Collaborate with fellow Engineers to maintain high standard of code quality

  • Work closely with Product owners, UX/UI Designers, Learning Designers, and Project Managers throughout a project lifecycle

  • Contribute to a large variety of projects

  • Have a solutions based mindset to issues that arise.


  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science/Software Engineering or related field

  • Passion for web development and an ability to work autonomously is essential.

  • Desire to learn new frameworks and technologies

  • Experience working in an agile environment, supported by JIRA

  • Experience in native ES5 & ES6, CSS (ideally a CSS pre-processor) highly regarded

  • Experience with versioning systems (we use gitLab) highly regarded

  • Experience of frontend tooling (grunt/gulp/webpack.etc) highly regarded
