Pearson Principal Architect in San Antonio, Texas

We are looking for a highly experienced Principal Architect to help build the architecture and design of Pearson Clinical content delivery platforms. The Principal Architect will be responsible for the architecture of , design and development of Pearson Clinical’s next generation platforms. The architect will be involved with the day-to-day design discussions while helping to code and deploy the next versions of our platforms serving customers in multiple countries and continents.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Work with product and engineering technology teams to build applications using Pearson’s learning platform.

  • Drive technical decisions in a principled manner. Arbitrate and make decisions that move the architecture forward with services being built as reusable components

  • Developing high volume microservices based applications that are cloud native, fault tolerant and highly available.

  • Participate in architecture, code, security and operational reviews.

  • Drive a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Identify and introduce new technologies and patterns that elevate the platform

  • Responsible for development of new software and systems, analyzes current programs and processes, and makes recommendations which yield a more cost-effective product

  • Develops and supports back-end software systems using Cloud technologies (AWS), Java, Seam Framework, JavaScript, AngularJS/2, XML, JSON, Container technology, RESTful Web Services, relational and NoSQL databases, and Jenkins.

  • Mentor junior engineers to make sound technical decisions and help build effective engineering practices

  • Effectively functions and communicates within a software development team consisting of developers, quality assurance and project management members

  • Researches and provides recommendations on technologies and frameworks; conducts feasibility studies and time estimates

Qualifications :

  • Computer Science degree with (Masters or above preferred) with with 15+ years of professional software development and a minimum of 5 years of team leading experience required

  • Significant experience in developing services-based consumer platforms at high-scale, high-availability, performance and resilience.

  • Prior experience building consumer platforms for the education industry.

  • Well-versed with content, content transformation and designing scalable content platforms

  • Proven experience architecting for the cloud with consideration for security and cost-effectiveness. AWS cloud experience preferred

  • Prior experience with multiple databases (Postgres, MongoDB ) with Proficiency in designing microservices in a domain driven culture

  • Proficient in designing modular architectures with good separation of concerns and data-modeling principles

  • Excellent hands-on skills with AWS technologies , several programming languages & OS (Java, JavaScript, HTML, Angular, Linux , Docker ) and tools like Jenkins,Maven, Gradle etc.

  • Excellent problem solving, applied reasoning, and analytical skills; experience translating analysis into clear recommendations and concrete action steps for diverse audiences

  • Strong ability to to persuade, negotiate, and facilitate conflict resolution

  • Experience working with distributed teams, including offshore team members

  • Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills with proven ability to balance competing tasks and meet deadlines
