Pearson Scoring Program Manager in Sacramento, California

The Scoring Program Manager is a leadership position in our Performance Scoring Division and supports the training and management of assessors, and the high-quality scoring of performance assessments for our clients. This role reports to the Director, Educator Performance Scoring.



  • Brings knowledge of testing and measurement to the process of delivering valid and accurate scoring of performance assessments ensuring they meet professional standards and the needs of the client

  • Manages projects involving cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of client deliverables. Provide positive leadership toward the successful delivery with a focus on cost, schedule, scope, quality and communication

  • Oversees the development of processes, procedures, and schedules for meeting project deliverables

  • Establishes and maintains a highly cooperative environment and fosters collaboration across all areas.

  • Identifies and analyzes project risks and develop mitigation plans with project team

  • Communicates status and cost implications through participation in status and working group meetings. Communicates status as needed for a variety of audiences.

  • Provides quality control for all scoring activities. Prepare QA planning materials, direct and conduct QA activities as needed

  • Leads and develops staff to ensure their understanding of assessment scoring so that products and services delivered are of the highest quality

Client Relationship Management:

  • Supports the Director, Educator Performance Scoring to develop, cultivate, and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with client staff (typically state education agency representatives), key stakeholders, and strategic partners

  • Works closely with team members to ensure that program activities are carried out in accordance with contract specifications, schedules, and budgets with quality service that meet or exceed customer satisfaction

  • Serves as an advisor and thought partner to clients and key stakeholders on the design and implementation of assessment solutions

  • Manages client expectations and maintains ongoing communications to keep client informed, and get client feedback on, all aspects of program development and assessment

Program Management:

  • Meets with internal teams on a regular basis to review program status and planning

  • Represents both the client perspective and the corporate perspective in decision-making

  • Participates in the development of proposals, contract amendments, subcontracts, and statements of work to ensure that they are accurate and completed in a timely manner

  • Advanced graduate degree, concentration in assessment and measurement (in education or a related field) preferred

  • Background in K-12/post-secondary education or educational testing preferred

  • Professional experience managing and supporting project & program contracts

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and facilitation skills

  • Experience directing the activities of staff in planning, organizing, scheduling, monitoring, and evaluating work

  • Experience in client relationship management and project management

  • Experience organizing and prioritizing workloads and successfully handling complex situations

  • Demonstration of a strong analytic capability and knowledge of education policies, issues, and programs

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Hybrid work environment

  • Travel as needed up to 15%
