About UK Assessment & Qualifications
We are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification, in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable and resilient services.
About the Job
We are looking for a Business Analyst to join our Technology Team, looking at the transformation of our platforms and introducing cloud based, innovative solutions to transform Pearson’s digital offering for UK Schools, Teachers and Learners.
As a Business Analyst you will work and collaborate with business stakeholders, to help define, refine and analyse their ideas and requirements, and with colleagues across Technology, such as product owners, architects, developers and project managers, identify and deliver solutions that meet stakeholder requirements.
Work and liaise closely with the Product Owners (POs) to deliver projects to schedule
Develop strong ties with each project’s business and Technology stakeholders to understand the project vision and detail/context of stakeholder requirements, and help drive/deliver best solutions for the business
Help define and map existing/new/proposed business processes
Help to elicit, analyse and refine the business requirements, and develop user journeys, themes and technology development requirements
Work with the PO and stakeholders to break requirements into phases (sprints) and establish a minimum viable product that achieves stated goals.
Work and liaise closely with the Technology project team (architects, PO, PM, developers, dev leads) to communicate requirements and develop solutions.
Consider functional and non-functional requirements for any proposed solution
Help to identify solutions that are in accordance with technology strategy, and which seek to utilise existing or shared components
Work with the PO, the Project Manager and stakeholders to develop and enforce a realistic schedule for all activities
Assist as appropriate with user acceptance testing to ensure systems satisfy customer requirements
Consistently deliver high-quality services
Key Skills & Experience
Demonstrated background and experience within a Business Analyst role(s), working on a range of IT based projects
Experience in eliciting, defining and working with requirements from business stakeholders, and working with user stories for product features, acceptance criteria and test conditions
Ability to analyse, define and refine business processes, using appropriate documents and mapping tools (e.g. Lucidchart, Visio) as necessary
Understanding and experience of Agile methodology. Experience of using JIRA is an advantage.
Analytical skills and attention to detail, with organised approach to working
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including informative presentations
Ability to work within project teams in a collaborative environment
Ability to develop good working relationships with stakeholders
Business problem identification/analysis/solving
Enthusiasm and positive interaction and communication with team members
Can quickly understand the technical and/or business detail, possibly in unfamiliar areas
Desire to undertake learning to develop knowledge and skills

Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience in projects with legacy processes, systems, data and integrations
Experience in supporting the testing of IT solutions
Exposure to authoring User Stories, using workflow tools such as Jira
Can think creatively and offer innovative solutions
Data analytical skills
The role is aligned to either our Rotherham or central London offices. Our Rotherham office is located at Junction 1 of the M18, making it commutable from Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster, Derby or Nottingham.
We have successfully worked from home throughout the pandemic, but have adopted hybrid working now national restrictions are lifted; for this role that means visiting your base office no more than once a week with the possibility of occasional travel to other Pearson sites, however, adjustments to this due to personal circumstances & preferences are possible.
We work a 37.5-hour week, with all our team free to flex their day around our core hours, which are Monday to Friday, 10 to 4 GMT/BST. School runs, etc can be accommodated. Other flexible working patterns can be considered, including part-time working and non-traditional hours. As we regularly work with global teams, particularly in India and the US, there may be the occasional need to accommodate meetings outside of core hours.
We actively encourage our staff to participate in at least 40 hours of training a year, and offer relevant AWS (Amazon Web Service) training and certification as part of this role.
