Pearson (Senior) Data Scientist in Poznan, Poland
(Senior) Data Scientist
We are looking for a Data Scientist to join Pearson’s AI Products and Solutions team. Our mission is to enable the development of AI-first, outcome-driven products to improve learning experiences. Learn more about the team at aipearson.pl.
The position provides the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research in a highly-collaborative environment that feels more like a startup than a big company. You will prototype and implement data-driven products and services that will have an impact on millions of learners around the globe.
This position requires a broad set of skills around statistical modelling and machine learning. Ideally, you should have experience with various types of ML algorithms. Most importantly, you need to be self-sufficient and comfortable with balancing the uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity of research with the need for predictable, incremental software development.
Designing, implementing, evaluating, and improving statistical models and machine learning algorithms (classic and deep neural networks)
Evaluating promising technologies (e.g. frameworks, libraries, third-party integrations)
Staying up to date with the state of ML applications in education (esp. adaptive learning and predictive learning analytics)
Creating technical documentation, incl. patent applications
Sharing your work results internally and externally (e.g. talks and workshops at conferences and meetups, journal publications)
We work in agile teams in which members can wear many hats, so besides building models, you’ll also have the opportunity to work on other project aspects, e.g. designing efficient solutions for large-scale data processing, operationalizing and optimising models, etc.
Good knowledge of statistics and machine learning theory
Experience with applied statistics and machine learning
Experience with ML frameworks, esp. Keras and/or TensorFlow
Proficiency in Python and data wrangling
Proficiency in SQL and relational databases
Proficiency with Linux or Unix-like systems
Experience with working in a diverse, remote, asynchronous team
Proficiency in written and spoken English
Experience with psychometric models
Proficiency with Git-based code review
Knowledge of best practices for software engineering
Experience with cloud data processing, preferably on AWS or GCP
Experience with big data processing frameworks, e.g. Spark
