Pearson Vice President, Assessment Solutions in Phoenix, Arizona

Summary of Position

The VP of Assessment Solutions will join the School Assessment extended leadership team and report directly to the SVP School Assessment – Sales and Contract Management. In this newly created role, the VP of Assessment Solutions will be responsible for driving organizational alignment on the business and technical components needed to successfully compete and deliver on K12 statewide, district, and partner assessment solutions. The VP collaborates closely with Sales & Contract Management, Product & Engineering, Proposals and Marketing, and our external partners to develop and guide our RFP responses and requirements for new solutions and capabilities. The VP leads a team of solution managers, solution owners, and solution designers/writers who will serve as the facilitators of solution creation, solution requirement documentation, and solution expertise and work constantly to ensure agreement and alignment across all School Assessment.

The successful candidate will be customer obsessed with a passion for creating solutions that meet the needs of learners, educators, administrators, district and state leaders. Must have extensive experience in: developing and implementing new ideas; high stakes and classroom/formative assessment, and the demonstrated ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver innovative and quality solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a clear assessment solution portfolio vision for School Assessment and manage solution owners that:

  • Define the solution vision, strategy, and roadmap

  • Align solutions to strategic plan

  • Baseline requirements, schedule, and cross functional work to support the assessment solution project plan

  • Facilitate monthly status to extended leadership teams

  • Manages a quarterly School Assessment Leadership team review of progress, risks, and documentation of investment needs for the assessment solution portfolio

  • Conduct compelling solution and feature demonstrations to a variety of internal and external audiences that convey product and subject matter expertise

  • Constantly gather customer feedback before and after go-live to ensure that it meets the customer expectations

  • Lead new solution ideation and planning.

  • Develop business case for new solutions, improvements to existing assessment, and partnerships. Use Solution Life Cycle (SLC) methodology that describes the value proposition, strategy, commercialization strategy, and financial models to support the buying or building of solutions to fit into the School Assessment portfolio

  • Lead prioritization process by partnering with business and technology leaders. Facilitate requirements gathering sessions with internal peers / partners. Gather, manage, and prioritize market / customer requirements to inform solution development activities

  • Perform market research, competitive analysis and SWAT analysis to gain understanding of competitors, and customers buying behavior

  • Combine customer requirements, educational trends, competitive knowledge and market demands to translate into product requirements / features and inform product roadmaps

  • Work closely with software development, business development, contract management, customer success, and marketing to ensure business case and customer satisfaction goals are met.

  • Solution Management and Execution

  • Manage team of solution managers, designers, and writers

  • Lead the solution design to effectively communicate the proposed solution for a given opportunity that will be used to facilitate the cross functional support for response and delivery of the opportunity.

  • For RFP driven work, solution managers will thoroughly review the RFP and complete a solution design, which will clearly articulate the solution to be proposed and communicate any gaps or risk to functional areas so they can support a response for those identified areas. The solution manager will guide the proposal team and pursuit team (assigned subject matter experts) through the RFP process and will make decisions on solution that align to the overall School Assessment solution vision.

  • For non-RFP driven work, the solution managers will work with the sales and contract management leads to define priority needs for new solutions and will follow a similar process to the RFP, to define a clear solution design in a consistent manner.

  • Solution managers will engage strategic partners as determined by the sales lead and will work effectively with the supplier diversity team to ensure Pearson’s supplier diversity goals are being pursued.

  • Provide thought leadership on how K12 assessment can integrate with instructional resources, curriculum, and other assessment tools being used to support students and education.

  • Act as the customer advocate articulating the user’s and/or buyer’s needs.

  • Provide solution, product, and market expertise to internal organizations and customers to support client engagements, sales processes and issue resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (advanced degree preferred)

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking/long term opportunities with operational focus

  • Passion for education and learning

  • Familiarity with SAFe Agile principles

  • Minimum 10 years assessment experience, including experience managing digital assessment solutions. Prefer knowledge of K-12 Assessment market (state, district, and classroom)

The anticipated starting salary range for Colorado-based individuals expressing interest in this position is $140-150k. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program.
