Pearson Evidence Manager for Sales -Remote in Phoenix, Arizona

Fundamentally, efficacy is about undertaking an outcome-focused and evidence-based approach todesign and develop products, measure their impact, and drive continuous improvement.

The Efficacy Strategy and Delivery team is one of four sub-teams within the wider Efficacy & Learning team in Pearson’s Direct to Consumer team. Efficacy & Learning is a team of learning experts including learning designers, learning science researchers, AI data scientists, engineers, and specialists in learning impact measurement who are located across the UK, Europe, South Africa, and North America. The Efficacy Strategy and Delivery team are the generalists among the wider team of experts, and we play a central strategy and delivery role. We are a small team made up of people from all kinds of backgrounds. We share a common interest in education and we are motivated by improving lives through learning.

What do we do?

The Efficacy Strategy & Delivery team are primarily responsible for:

  • Ensuring that Efficacy & Learning provide the most effective and relevant support to the business in the long-term by developing the Efficacy & Learning Centre of Expertise 5-year strategic ambition and 5-year plan in collaboration with our customers from across Pearson

  • Ensuring the satisfaction of our internal customers by driving strategic alignment and delivery across E&L and the products, services and solutions it supports across all five divisions in the company

  • Evolving and executing the approach to public reporting on the effectiveness of Pearson products and services to increase public trust in Pearson and demonstrate the quality of our products

  • Working with product management teams across the company to understand the opportunities for the expertise in E&L to support their product strategies

  • Working with the other teams within E&L to make sure that any insights produced are translated into actionable product development recommendations that will make those products more effective

  • Working with sales and marketing teams to turn our expertise in learning and the evidence of product effectiveness that is produced across E&L into compelling sales and marketing collateral and thought leadership that can be used to increasingly differentiate Pearson in the market

What are the responsibilities of the role?

This position reports to the Evidence Manager for Marketing and aims to ensure that the evidence created, and the learning expertise within the Efficacy & Learning (E&L) team, is leveraged effectively by sales, marketing, and corporate communications teams to differentiate Pearson from our competitors. As part of a global centre of expertise this role will work in support of all five divisions of Pearson and across the enabling functions.

The high-level responsibilities for this role are to:

  • Develop strong, pro-active partnerships with sales colleagues in-market to help them embed evidence successfully in their sales initiatives

  • Contribute to E&L product scrum teams, providing a commercial lens by ensuring that we are producing evidence that can influence consumer behaviour and is aligned to market priorities

  • Use that same commercial lens to contribute to decisions on the products and projects that the E&L team should prioritise working on

  • Facilitate the production of evidence for cross-product initiatives (e.g. OER, Inclusive Access, Solution Selling)

  • Liaise with training and development, sales, and marketing teams to support training needs around evidence-based selling and effectively using evidence. (e.g. for Higher Education: the National Sales Meeting, Virtual Product Meetings, New Rep boot camps)

  • Liaise with marketing and sales teams to ensure sales resources are up-to-date and accessible where other sales resources live (e.g. Insight and SharePoint)

  • Run sales leadership groups that focus on using evidence effectively to grow market share and serve as a gateway to understand market trends and customer needs (e.g. the Evidence Field Champions group in US Higher Education)

  • Create and execute new/innovative approaches to meeting the needs of internal stakeholders in relation to using evidence to solve their problems

  • Serve as a translator of technical information, helping to make insights from our highly-technical learning experts clearly actionable for sales teams across the company. Then in reverse, help upskill and empower the wider E&L team when it comes to understanding the priorities, approaches, and tactics of our sales teams

  • Where possible track the usage of evidence in sales, regularly reporting progress to leadership and sales colleagues globally

  • Drive participation and accountability for using evidence in sales by continually socializing how this approach is contributing to successes

  • Review, synthesise and share any marketing and sales strategies that have designing for, or measuring, outcomes at their foundation used by our competitors

  • Act as a key contributor to the wider agenda of the Efficacy Strategy & Delivery team within Efficacy & Learning.

What will it take to do the job well?

Given the team’s role at Pearson, this individual will need to have experience working in sales, be good at building relationships, be comfortable translating complex technical information into effective sales tools, understand the company strategy and direction, and be effective within a cross-functional team.

Essential Criteria :

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in sales

  • Proven results of strong sales performance

  • Solid understanding of question based selling and other sales strategies

  • Evidence of credibility with senior stakeholders and the ability to influence the direction senior leaders have taken

  • Acknowledged team player who values collaboration

  • Confident to lead work without day-to-day management supervision and to innovate on new approaches to solve problems: self-driven, motivated, creative, and proactive

  • Strong ability to lead through influence, coach, and mentor colleagues who may not directly be in your line of control

  • Exceptional communications skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working in, or with Higher Education Sales

  • Experience of and/or desire to understand the wider business (different functions, verticals, and markets)

  • Some understanding of marketing and/or ability to think creatively

  • Familiarity with scaling the impact of small teams across large organizations

  • An interest in what works in educationand sense of urgency to improve outcomes for learners at scale

  • Adaptable to change with an ability to quickly adjust to a new context
