Pearson Data Scientist - remote in Phoenix, Arizona

Summary

The Data and Analytics team is a nimble and highly impactful team that provides critical guidance, insights, and strategic frameworks to the senior leaders responsible for our various functions and business units. It is comprised of passionate, smart, and creative individuals who consistently seek out new challenges and experiences. As an integral part of the team, the Data Scientist will help extract meaning from large volumes of data necessary to make business decisions and help the team set the vision, strategy and roadmap of various business units within the organization, working alongside stakeholders to make this happen.

The Data Scientist will be involved in all things analytics; leveraging statistics, machine learning methods, cloud engineering, and business intelligence tools to solve problems. The Data Scientist will run statistical tests and machine learning techniques. They will also leverage entry-level data engineering understanding (SQL, Python, and Linux) to improve the team’s data ecosystem within the Google Cloud Platforms.

General Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Create cloud engineering solutions to support the analytics teams. This includes cloud functions, extract-transform-load scripts, and batch processing jobs.

  • Run statistical tests to prove or disprove business hypotheses.

  • Use machine learning techniques for prediction.

  • Create datasets in Google Bigquery to support analyses.

  • Gather requirements from business, acquire data from multiple sources, and develop products to satisfy business needs.

  • Coordinate with engineering teams to enhance the Data and Analytics team’s data ecosystem.

  • Explore new technologies to enhance the Data and Analytics team’s data ecosystem.

  • Aid in the development of best practices used in business metrics analysis.

  • Liaise with business and gather requirements from stakeholders for current and new analytics initiatives.

  • Support process improvement discussions with stakeholders informed by analytical insights.

  • Participate in business partner-facing presentations and meetings as needed.
