This is a unique opportunity to join a significant and high-profile technology operation whilst driving transformation for the future and deliver an integrated digital business that supports teaching, learning and assessment and qualifications. The position is for a Solution Architect, who is responsible the design of architectural solutions and plans for various transformation projects. Currently we are in the middle of a programme to transform a legacy estate to AWS, and so designs are primarily focused on this skill set, although there will be other projects coming along with a broader outlook, so being adaptable and open to learning new skills is essential.
The new architecture being built is based on a Microservice methodology, and relies on pub/sub designs, so you should have a good level of experience in this domain, along with understanding of using serverless technologies such as API Gateway, ECS and Lambda, alongside DynamoDB and AWS Aurora database technologies
You will need to learn and understand the current legacy architecture, and what this means in terms of the business processes and how these are mapped onto the new designs; this would therefore suit someone who has previous experience with complex ecosystems, especially in the education sector.
The role involves working with developers, project managers, product owners and SMEs to establish the requirements and come up with the optimal design pattern for each project, as well as working with other architects, both data and solution, and analysts, to ensure that designs are in line with current standards and patterns.
There will also be attendance to various senior stakeholder meetings to present and explain why designs have been chosen, so excellent communication & planning skills are essential, with the ability to put things into non-technical terms for the wider audience.
This would suit a senior solution architect, with a background in complex designs around transformation from legacy to cloud preferably, and who is looking to work on fast moving projects. A proven track record in delivering projects is required.
Hours will be standard Mon-Fri 8am till 4.30pm. Weekends are not usually required
Work will generally be remote, although there will be a need to attend a Pearson office periodically
