Summary:

The Finishing Machine Operator operates various b&w and color printing systems. This position has responsibility of scanning and formatting of hard copy pages for book production. The Collate Machine Operator operates all bindery / finishing equipment, cross training on all bindery equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collating : Set up, pre-load, collate, make folder and stitcher adjustments, follow package and labeling specifications.

  • Saddle Stitch collating : Must complete training on saddle stitching-set up, load feeders, delivery controls, feeder pocket set ups, stitcher, follow package and labeling specifications.

  • Folding : Set-up and run folder using straight folds, cross folds, and glue and folds. Includes loading, inspection, stacking or boxing, and labeling of folded forms.

  • Wrapping : Set-up and run polywrap equipment by loading forms on a conveyor, boxing, sealing, labeling and stacking printed product.

  • Flatbed cutting : Set-up equipment, program new cuts and retrieve existing cut programs from equipment control panel, and perform all cutting functions including: cut-to-fit and cut-to-size using automatic jogger, scale/counter and flatbed cutter. Organize forms into appropriate lifts, cutting and placing neatly on skids.

  • Perform basic lubrication and preventative maintenance for finishing equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and fix routine equipment problems.

  • Keep area neat and clean through good organization and return and disposal of supplies.

  • Assist with the training of other employees.

  • Must be flexible and open to changes in job responsibilities during shift.

  • Assists and over-sees temporary employees.

  • Complete all paperwork, job tickets, checkbook, and quality sign-offs.

  • Follow complex numbering methods to meet customer specifications by referencing numbering charts.

  • Understands and applies all job ticket information.

  • Follows all department safety guidelines

  • Makes frequent workplace improvements and participates in continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • A combination of education, professional training and experience is typically required. On the job training & Apprenticeship program during on-boarding process. (6 month-3 year program)

Additional Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of PC Applications: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power-Point and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Experience working in digital printing environment is helpful.

  • Graphic arts and or printing background is helpful.
