Purpose of the position
The Content Strategist is a key member of the Higher Education product team for the Australia programme, partnering with Commercial Product Managers, Content Developers, Producers and Subject Matter Experts/Authors in Australia to bring our product strategy to life. You are responsible for product discovery, and for defining the content and learning experience across the portfolio, based on market needs, as well as Pearson’s global platforms and Content & Editorial Policy. You will be responsible for engaging existing authors and subject matter experts through the product planning process, and guiding them through the authoring process to ensure they deliver against the plan.
Key responsibilities
Content and learning experience strategy
Develop content strategy across assigned disciplines and titles, with a focus on digital experiences
Where possible, implement strategies to leverage Pearson’s global IP, to increase speed-to-market and reduce development costs
Understand how to best utilise Pearson’s tools and platforms to deliver engaging learning experiences
Customer and market engagement
Develop proofs-of-concepts and prototypes to test and validate proposed content and learning experience (internally and with customers)
Engage with target customers to validate content and learning experience throughout the product development process
Be informed and up-to-date on content and teaching model direction in the assigned discipline areas.
Be informed on competitor learning experiences
Author/SME management
Engage existing authors and SMEs in planning stages of updates/revisions to agree content plan
Negotiate with and sign discrete content authors where required (eg: for case studies)
Partner with and support Development Editors in guiding authors through the development and production process
Commercial performance
Decide on product release targets as part of quarterly List Planning, led by Commercial Product Managers
Ensure delivery of each product against plan, weighing up time/quality/budget considerations to ensure achievement of commercial targets
Partner with Go-to-Market teams (Customer Success, Marketing and Sales) to ensure product value proposition is articulated clearly and during optimal GTM window; be an evangelist for all new product releases

Ensure content and learning experience aligns Pearson's commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion, and Global Content and Editorial Policy
Lead DEI review and remediation process with DEI readers for specified titles
Essential experience and competencies
Experience in content/product development
High competence in balancing strategic thinking with a focus on operational delivery, and translating market/customer insights into products and experiences that delight customers
Strong strategic and commercial judgement and excellent organisational and analytical skills.
Able to prioritise to deliver products against plan, ensuring that it stays on track to achieve its commercial objectives
Confident and able networker with an ability to form trusted relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders and influence / lead at all levels, often in virtual teams.
Skilled ability in the use of market research techniques such as surveys, focus groups, questionnaire design, observation, etc.
Communication skills across a variety of media, including communication with cross-functional, virtual teams
Creative thinking and customer/learner empathy.
