The Content Developer is responsible for developing assessment content, primarily for computer-based test delivery. This involves review of client item banks and conducting gap analyses, conducting stakeholder and focus group meetings, designing and executing the training of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on the item writing and test development process, facilitating item writing and review meetings, designing the client-specific workflow arrangements and setup requirements for the item banking tool as well as building examinations according to precise test specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with program and project teams as appropriate

  • Working with clients to determine their content development requirements

  • Recruiting and training Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for item writing and review

  • Coordinating the process of fulfilling requirements for test items, including images, language translation and audio, if necessary

  • Conducting item writing and item review sessions

  • Reviewing items for adherence to prescribed style and test specifications

  • Selecting items for use on examination adhering to discrete test specifications with multiple variables in collaboration with psychometrician(s)

  • Specifying the setup requirements for the item banking tool for Pearson VUE clients ensuring that all requisite item elements and metadata are captured

  • Managing documentation relating to the item production process ensuring version control is updated and that the total security of all materials is maintained

  • Escalating risks to the Content Development Manager and Program Manager to ensure that solutions are implemented, and high-quality examination items are developed within deadline

  • Adhering to quality control checklists and Identifying process improvement opportunities

  • Documenting processes

  • Ensuring that items are prepared on budget and to schedule

  • Managing item writers and/or subcontractors

  • Coordinating work with the Content Editors

  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Content Development Manager

Key Tasks

  • Conducting meetings with clients and key stakeholders

  • Liaising regularly with item writers via phone, email and in person

  • Maintaining client item banks ensuring all relevant item metadata

  • Developing and delivering item writing training materials

  • Facilitating item writing and review sessions, either virtually or in person

  • Monitoring progress against project plan and project schedule(s)

  • Checking that the item writers have used appropriate checklists and provided all the required materials and references

  • Creating image briefs to detail illustration requirements if needed

  • Developing and documenting procedures for test development processes

  • Building assessments and examinations adhering to test specifications

  • Generating reports (e.g., implementation plans, item bank gap analysis reports, meeting summary reports)

  • Keeping Program Manager and the Content Development Manager informed of project status

Qualifications

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field

  • Knowledge of best practices in the development of assessments and examinations

  • Experience in delivering training and the development of training materials for assessment

  • Experience in facilitating focus groups and/or stakeholder meetings

  • Experience working directly with clients/ managing client relationships

  • Concentration, accuracy and attention to detail

  • Methodical working style with emphasis on quality

  • Ability to work on several tasks at any one time

  • Tact and diplomacy

  • Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and technologies, particularly Excel

  • Ability to learn and use a variety of proprietary database applications and other software

  • Initiative to identify and prioritise what needs to be done

  • Proven outstanding level and knowledge of English language (written and oral)

  • Report writing and presentation skills

  • Process improvement skills

Working Arrangements

37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday

Salary range between $70,000 and $90,000, excluding super.
