The English Language Learning (ELL) division of Pearson is looking for a talented and motivated professional to join our growing team as Digital Software Factory Director. Reporting to the ELL CTO, you will ramp up a SW development factory to drive the continuous evolution of ELL digital products and applications. You will lead teams of technical experts to support the Direct to Consumer journey of ELL by building Digital products, mobile applications and AR/VR technologies.
High Level Responsibilities
Responsible for deep understanding of the needs of the customer and market demands, and for collaborating with Product Management and stakeholders to define and drive a vision and road map.
Accountable for managing support for existing products and services, as well as the development of new products and services. Owns on time and on budget delivery of projects conducted within the area.
Manage the portfolio’s overall budget, which includes understanding and managing to funding direction in coordination with CTO and Finance team.
Setup and manage a Software development factory to deliver applications adopting the latest technologies and development practices
Ramp up and lead teams of highly talented mobile engineers
Embed DevSecOps principles in the Software Factory Operating model
Modernize the way software is delivered and applications roadmaps are managed
Partner with Product managers to align on the strategic directions and delivery plans
Be responsible for the people management of a co-located and remote engineering teams
Create an environment of continuous improvement through mentoring, feedback, and coaching
Drive innovation within a fast-paced agile environment
Maintain a pipeline of demands for digital solutions, prioritize them, and drive their rollout and deployment globally
Ensure security and compliance of global and local digital solutions in the managed portfolio
Manage budget and contract for external development needs
Recruit, retain and develop top talent
Role model a culture of partnership, teamwork, innovation and diversity, equity & inclusion
Promote a highly collaborative, customer-centric, data-driven culture that challenges norms with a bias to action support diversity of thoughts, experiences, and approaches to solve challenges
*Qualifications & Skills *
Degree in Software engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
Extensive experience in setting up a SW development factory, especially focused on Mobile applications
A broad engineering background and deep experience leading full-stack teams in mobile development on both iOS and Android in the Direct to Consumer world
Proven success developing and delivering complex, scalable, and highly reliable solutions.
Prior experience as an Engineering Manager or Director of Engineering at an established, high-growth technology company. Ideally you have served as an engineering leader in a successful, dynamic startup (startup experience is highly desired).
Strong experience in Scrum/Agile and an interest in helping the team develop agreements and processes around that methodology.
Experience with and are a proponent of automated testing.
Solid organizational skills, being able to create an organization structure from scratch and evolve it as needed
Strong understanding of emerging technologies and software engineering methodologies
Data driven mindset and knowledge of data analytics solutions
Relevant experience in managing and mentoring SW engineering teams in a complex and matrix organization as well as in building relationships with senior stakeholders
Ability to build agile and high performing teams that can deliver business value in short period of time
Experience in managing contracts and external vendors
Relationship management skills and the ability to use them to drive value both within and externally
