Pearson Publishing Manager - Teaching and Learning Resources - 18 Months FTC in London, United Kingdom
The Publishing Manager is responsible for managing and leading on the content design and authoring, editorial and publication of teaching and learning resources, including digital and printed textbooks, that meet the needs of learners, customers/clients and stakeholders across our international markets. This involves developing a coherent understanding of teaching, learning and assessment of vocational qualifications across a range of sectors, to produce teaching and learning resources which are attractive and engaging to learners and customers.
This role:
generates strong evidence bases for the content design and authoring of teaching and learning resources that are aligned with our business and sector strategies
works collaboratively with authors and reviewers throughout the development process to author content which meets the objectives of a defined brief
develops teaching and learning resources that are attractive and engaging to teachers and learners, meet stakeholder needs and are compliant with the requirements of government, regulators, clients and Pearson quality policies and procedures
work collaboratively with the Rights and Permissions Team to obtain the necessary permissions to use third-party rights, licences and assets in our teaching and learning products
designs, develops and publishes teaching and learning resources to time, budget and quality; recruiting, briefing, training and performance managing best-in-class authoring teams
works collaboratively across Pearson to bring together the technical, customer and sector/industry expertise to inform the design, authoring and publication of teaching and learning resources, and to contribute to the continual improvement of how we do things as a department and as a wider business
Main responsibilities:
1. Market knowledge and insight
generates a strong evidence base for the content design and authoring of teaching and learning resources (via learner, customer and stakeholder research)
collaborate with colleagues to establish a good understanding of customer and learner needs and behaviours
develop and maintain insight into best practice (teaching and learning, assessment and the link between them)
represent Pearson in meetings with stakeholders as part of the design, development and publication process, e.g. employers, sector stakeholders, governments, regulators
develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
2. Product strategy and financial management
develop strategies for designing teaching and learning resources that are both attractive to learners and customers and compliant with the requirements of governments and regulators
contribute to sector strategy development
manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets
3. Product design and development
design, develop and publish teaching and learning resources that meet learner, customer and stakeholder needs, and are compliant with regulatory, government and client requirements and Pearson quality policies and procedures
lead the product development and commissioning process (content design, authoring, internal and external reviews, editorial and publishing approval) to time, budget and quality
provide regular management information detailing risks and issues with appropriate mitigations that ensure delivery to time, budget and quality
identify, recruit, commission, train and performance manage authors/consultants in a strategic way to deliver teaching and learning resources to time, budget and quality
brief authors, negotiate terms that are to mutual benefit and align with Pearson's contract standards, communicate and agree schedules and expectations
ensure feedback to authors/consultants is timely and clear and that content delivered meets the brief and delivers identified learner outcomes
work collaboratively with the Rights and Permissions Team to obtain the necessary permissions to use third-party rights, licences and assets in our teaching and learning products
manage the editorial and publishing process and work collaboratively with the relevant teams who are providing this service.
work collaboratively with suppliers and consultants where translation of teaching and learning resources are required
manage the publishing of teaching and learning resources across different platforms, to include both print and digital formats and work collaboratively with the relevant teams involved.
4. Service management, customer experience and campaigns
Collaborate with colleagues to:
maintain the accuracy and validity of teaching and learning resources through their lifecycle
ensure a positive customer and learner experience in delivery through the lifecycle
monitor customer experience and learner data at regular points through a learning service’s lifecycle (from customer satisfaction tracking to regular, in-depth qualitative insight) to make recommendations for continual improvement
understand and anticipate the overall customer and learner experience of our services and identify areas for improvement
make refinements to teaching and learning resources based on feedback and insights received from stakeholders
work collaboratively with the Marketing Team to support and implement strategies to promote teaching and learning resources across a range of channels
5. Leadership and management
work effectively in virtual teams across Pearson to ensure a positive working culture in support of Pearson strategy
champion a ‘learner and customer first’ culture across Pearson, ensuring there is good understanding of what is important to learners and customers and that all decisions are made with reference to their needs
lead on departmental initiatives to deliver better service to our customers and learners, drive growth, develop commercial partnerships with stakeholders and other third parties, and influence major stakeholders
Qualifications and experience:
Essential
Qualified to degree level or equivalent
Experience of leading and delivering commercially successful projects and/or initiatives
Experience of working on the design, commissioning, development and publication of educational resources
Experience of the editorial and publishing process
Experience of leading and/or working effectively in virtual teams
Project management experience
