Pearson Junior Media Relations Specialist in London, United Kingdom

Reporting to the VP, Global Media Relations, the Junior Media Relations Specialist will work with a cross-section of international communications colleagues on a wide range of projects to support Pearson’s proactive storytelling efforts.

The successful candidate will have an ability to help anticipate communications needs and serve as a strong day-to-day partner.

The specialist must also display excellent interpersonal skills – someone who is likable, a team player and who has the personality, global perspective and acumen to effectively collaborate across the organization.

Key Deliverables

Best-in-Class Media Relations

  • Responsibilities will include supporting Pearson’s PLC website, maintaining the department’s calendar, drafting media pitches, managing the development of monthly and quarterly reports, overseeing media monitoring vendors and their budgets, helping the media relations team respond to media queries and other duties as assigned.

  • Contribute to the development of enterprise messaging, talking points, Pearson’s PLC website content strategy and all external communications products (press releases, Q&As, press statements, social media, blogs, CEO media briefs etc.) to help amplify Pearson’s brand narrative.

  • Collaborate with global communications colleagues to identify human interest and consumer stories that align with our corporate strategy.

Corporate Reputation

  • Work proactively to help enhance and protect Pearson’s reputation.

  • Anticipate and track reputation issues .

  • Support reputation management projects and suggest tactics to strengthen Pearson’s reputation.

Building Relationships and Working Cross Functionally

  • Act as a trusted partner to the VP and Directors of media relations.

  • Work closely with business communications teams to tell Pearson’s growth story.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across global corporate communications and marketing to ensure communications activities align to the corporate strategy, brand and messaging.

  • Work with the social media and digital teams to inform and develop compelling digital content.

You will have :

  • Communications Experience: experience supporting the creation of great communications products and operating in a matrixed environment.

  • Core Skills: writing proficiency, research minded, familiarity with digital assets and detail oriented.

  • Media Relations Experience : good understanding of the global media environment.

  • Business Abilities: acumen to deliver work on time and on budget. Strong project and budget management skills with a results-oriented mindset.

  • Positive Mindset: a willingness to take on new projects, curious and open to learning new skills, and passionate about solving problems.

  • Effective communication: an effective conveyor of information both internally and externally as an ambassador of the brand.
