Your Opportunity

We’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic Creative Design Manager to help facilitate the creative and design requirements for the UK Schools Marketing (B2B and D2C) team across multiple marketing channels. You will have a passion for design and a solid understanding of marketing design principles. A key part of the role will be to nurture and support junior designers. This role will support the Senior Creative Services Manager in coordinating the workflow of design work as well as some hands-on design and direction.

Key responsibilities:

Team management

  • Support the Senior Creative Services Manager to develop a high-functioning team of creatives and designers – both internal and external resources.

  • Support and mentor internal designers to deliver high quality design work in line with industry best practice and company brand guidelines.

  • Manage and brief external vendors: creative agencies, freelancers, specialists in illustration, photography and design.

  • Develop good relationships with suppliers, ensuring a regular rotation of work as needed to maintain capacity and knowledge.

  • Help create a positive culture of learning and development within the team, seeking opportunities to develop own and other team members skills and experience.

  • Maintain manageable files/records/log of briefs, design work.

Creative and visual design

  • Advocate and adopt accessibility guidelines and user-centric design principles.

  • Ability to gain a strong understanding of Pearson brand guidelines and support on creative direction, quality and market fit, across Pearson UK Schools products and services.

  • Keep up to date with advances and trends in marketing design and media and ensure standards of design, design services, illustration, media and animation are in line with industry standards.

  • Work directly on creative projects as required – allocating work appropriately across team with support from Senior Creative Services Manager.

  • Support designers with their work, helping to resolve design challenges and enhance projects in collaboration with the marketing owner.

Commercial effectiveness

  • Optimise work turnaround time, quality and value for money through effective use of workflow management tools and processes.

  • Support the Senior Creative Services Manager to manage the department budget for freelance design.

  • Facilitate collaboration with colleagues across marketing and the wider business – ensuring shared knowledge of business and commercial objectives and implications.

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent visual design skills (creative flair, strong typography skills, coupled with technical competence).

  • Experience working in busy design departments,

  • Experience managing other workers/agencies/freelancers.

  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Great communicator, skilled at taking/refining briefs and understanding requirements.

  • A facilitator, keen to make things happen at pace, manage expectations and unblock issues.

  • Enjoys working under time-pressure with deadlines.

  • Coaching/mentoring skills to support junior members of the team.

  • Excellent knowledge of the Adobe creative suite.
