Pearson Assessment Improvements Manager in London, United Kingdom

Role Location: This is a hybrid role and will allow a balance of home working alongside work from our London Pearson UK office, as per business requirements.

About the role

We’re looking for an Assessment Improvements Manager to support out ambitious growth aspirations for out UK and International portfolio. The role will focus on implementing cross portfolio enhancements to our assessments that best meet the needs of our qualification users. They will champion excellence in assessment and drive a step change in the way we design, iterate and validate the performance of our assessments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead cross portfolio improvement activities for UK and International assessments.

  • Manage and enhance key stakeholder relationships with cross functional areas to capture assessment risks and solutions.

  • Implement an effective assessment monitoring program across UK and International portfolio working closely with colleagues in standards and assessment design.

  • Promote best practices across the portfolio for devising first class assessment materials that best meet the needs of stakeholders.

  • Plan and support the delivery of qualification and subject level improvement projects related to assessments across UK and International portfolios.

  • Bring the customer voice into the development of all assessment materials.

  • Ensure that insights and customer feedback is shared impactfully with key stakeholders for assessment to engage with customer voice directly.

  • Develop and utilize strategic relationships across the Pearson Schools Qualifications division.

  • Attend service and product councils on behalf of assessment division with a focus on qualification and assessment improvements.

  • Be a champion for assessment improvements that include accessibility, language and DE & I

  • Create and manage a streamlined process for effectively and efficiently implementing changes to assessments.

  • Track and maintain visibility of costs and budgets related to assessment improvements.

  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of expertise across our Assessment Services portfolio and provides expertise to various stakeholders.

  • Advocate for innovation in assessment instruments and processes and develop expertise as a thought leader for future assessments in the UK and International portfolio.

  • Owning personal development in relation to building technical assessment expertise, including identifying training and development needs and opportunities and being responsible for continuous professional development of self and others within the division.

  • Support, as required, customer facing meetings representing Pearson’s Assessment improvements work.


  • Knowledgeable and passionate about Education, and our customers.

  • Knowledge of assessment practices and assessment design approaches.

  • Has a detailed understanding of assessment development process and is aware of issues that may impact our customers, taking action to positively engage – effectively and empathetically.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work with tact and diplomacy in dealing with a range of people.

  • Passionate about customer experience excellence and responsiveness.

  • Excellent planning and organising skills with the ability to formulate and clearly articulate a plan of action. In addition, to provide updates on progress and build in contingencies.

  • Anticipates problems before they may arise, using initiative to deal with issues. Recognises when it is appropriate and necessary to escalate.

  • Stakeholder management skills.

  • Is able to effectively influence without authority.

  • Positive attitude and flexible approach to work.

  • An ideas machine, not afraid to challenge the BAU.
