Sr. Software Quality Administrator

We are seeking a Program Validation Sr. Software Quality Administrator for a remote position with a newly-acquired company, Spotlight, based in Davis, CA. Spotlight is a California tech start-up company that has developed cutting-edge videos that are mass-personalized to explain student assessment results to parents in multiple languages. (see

This resource will lead a team of manual software testers to support the development and production deliveries of Spotlight videos. You must: be devoted to “making the product perfect,” love attention to detail, have a passion for developing systems and processes, like managing a team to deliver to exacting standards, and work well with internal and external stakeholders. Moreover, you must thrive on a start-up like environment, where you will be “driving the car while building it.” Practically speaking, this involves pitching-in and doing manual QA testing yourself when needed as well as building out tools and processes to automate the testing as we go.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 3-5 full- and part-time manual software testers

  • Works autonomously and with minimal supervision, yet collaboratively within and across Agile teams including Performance and Automation.

  • Welcomes change, adjust and adapt for efficiency.

  • Demonstrates good judgment in implementing methods and techniques for obtaining results.

  • Pay continuous attention to technical and quality excellence.

  • Communicate efficiently, effectively and often with peers, leaders and those being led.

  • Act as a lead/mentor to lower level Analysts.

  • Identify process improvements in the existing SDLC, develop a model plan, and share with the team.

  • Prepare and deliver recommendations to the team from testing results.

  • Make recommendations for functional application improvements to BA, Development, and QA.

  • Able to prioritize tasks according to importance and severity.

  • Adapt to unexpected changes/process improvements.

  • Resolve technical and non-technical issues with minimum supervision or assistance.

  • Conduct analysis and investigations in a prompt and efficient manner.

  • Develop test strategy plans and help tune and refine existing testing practices.

  • At times and when needed, able to work during regular off office hours.

  • Capable of testing Web based stand alone and mobile devices

  • Document and summarize tests results and report findings

  • Perform “as-needed” QA duties as assigned

  • Able to conduct front and back end testing

  • This position is remote. You must be available during normal business hours pacific time if needed. Overtime in the evenings and or weekends is needed to support delivery deadlines.

The position is open to applicants in any state, and hourly rates, while generally between $19.23 and $28/hr may vary depending on a location's minimum wage. The anticipated starting hourly wage for Colorado-based individuals expressing interest in this position is $19.23. This position is not eligible to participate in an incentive program.

Qualifications - External

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in automated software testing, with at least 1 year of experience as a team leader.

  • Knowledge of overall SDLC, including build artifacts and deployment topologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality testing artifacts and test preparation standards across multiple programs.

  • Proven ability to execute test cases and log/track defects to ensure functionality meets software and customer specifications as well as resolve issues in execution.

  • Demonstrated skill of using appropriate and effective communication (both written & oral) to various audiences including management.

  • Working skill with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and test management, requirement and documentation tools (QASymphony qTest, Jira, Confluence, etc.)
