The Website Manager, Data and Applications is ultimately responsible for the solutions behind our websites. Our ideal candidate is team oriented and possesses excellent communication skills and extensive experience in consumer-facing websites, content management systems and complex databases. This role requires a hybrid of business acumen and customer centricity to support new and emerging opportunities in digital customer experience.

  • Team Manager responsible for coaching and development of all members of aligned web-centric agile team.

  • Works with the Director Web Marketing and Operations, subject matter experts and other stakeholders to meet database and development needs to support current and new web roadmaps supporting multiple business lines.

  • Works across the organization and with business stakeholders to resolve/communicate key issues, critical decisions, and priorities.

  • Ensure the organization initiatives are aligned with strategy to deliver business value.

  • Analyze the feasibility of and develop requirements to support existing platforms and create new digital capabilities.

  • Involved in planning and supporting business process to identify go to market strategies for new products and services.

  • Help define and drive design concepts with the design/development/data team based on business specifications.

  • Implement large-scale data ecosystems including data management, governance and the integration of structured and unstructured data.

  • Synthesize data requirements into data designs, database structures.

  • Participate in QA of website releases and content creation.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage Web Developers (front and back end), Web Database Analyst and Web Database Specialist and 3rd party vendors and freelancers/consultants as needed.


  1. Manage database team/development team/consultants and day to day operations and enhancements of the web eco-system.

  2. Project oversight to expand functionality for the websites in support of the Pearson Learning Services websites.

  3. Plan and develop roadmaps with the web operations team to extend the capabilities and tools used to deliver the product catalog, website and ecommerce experiences. Work with IT and internal teams to execute on plans, identify and resolve any issues with data quality or delivery, manage consultants who are adding the functionality.

  4. Guide team to develop and deliver reporting needs for the organization.

  5. Oversee maintenance of the online database content, permissions and data quality and CMS tools to ensure uptime of the websites and the systems that feed them.


Skills/knowledge/abilities –

  • Strong project management background, with experience leading large-scale initiatives.

  • Understanding of the website development lifecycle and methodologies.

  • Strong people management experience required.

  • Thorough understanding of digital content creation tools.

  • Demonstrated understanding of digital analytics and experience applying data to optimize content performance.

  • Self-starter with strong, proactive work ethic and fast learner.

  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented individual who is capable of self-managing and multi-tasking in a demanding environment

  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence outcomes

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing business priorities and a strong work ethic

  • Endlessly curious in how emerging digital trends can translate into excellent customer experiences

  • Data-driven mindset, using quantitative tools and analyzing unstructured feedback to inform

  • design.

  • Proven professional, able to work effectively with a variety of personality types and job levels.

  • Track record of prioritizing and successfully delivering multiple initiatives on-time in an ecommerce or digital company.

  • Proven track record in Web operation/administration working with content management tools.

Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - Marketing, Communications or relevant field preferred

  • 7 years of experience producing and editing digital content

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing website content in a content management system

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including superior writing and editing skills

  • Ability to move quickly in a rapidly changing and often ambiguous environment.

  • Committed to teamwork and collaboration.

  • High levels of tact, diplomacy and fine-tuned consultative skills.
