VP, Strategic Communications, North America

We are looking for an experienced communications professional to take on the role as Vice President (VP), North America Communications, overseeing various aspects of internal and external outreach and communications and helping to build understanding and excitement around these businesses’ ambitious strategy throughout Pearson.

You will also contribute to generating revenue for the North America and Assessment businesses by establishing strong partnerships with key stakeholders, working closely with senior leaders and subject matter experts across the organization.

Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Operations, you will lead a communications team to help shape Pearson’s profile overall and support North America and Assessment business growth.


  • Provide vision, leadership, and counsel for all of Pearson's businesses in North America, aligned to our corporate brand and strategy

  • Collaborate on and drive a comprehensive media relations strategy and program to engage with key print, broadcast, and digital media outlets, both proactively and reactively

  • Serve as Global Corporate Affairs and Marketing business partner to the President, North America and President, Assessment, working closely with their senior leadership teams

  • Use data and insights to identify key messages and audiences, telling a simple, consistent, transparent, and relevant story to a broad range of diverse audiences

  • Collaborate across the function and organization to align messages and to promote key initiatives

  • Reinforce our culture of being brave, imaginative, decent and accountable by proactively mobilizing around important issues facing our North America and Assessment businesses

  • Anticipate and oversee issues management and crisis communications plans for the North America and Assessment businesses, advising senior leaders

  • Lead the strategy and provide oversight for internal communications to help inform, engage, and inspire employees across the North America and Assessment businesses

  • Monitor, measure, and track the effectiveness of communications strategies on a regular basis

  • Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships and partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of North America & Assessment communications, including developing and mentoring staff, budgeting, and planning


  • A holistic understanding of all aspects of communications, positioning, and messaging, including industry best practices

  • Strong business acumen and results oriented with the ability to turn ideas into action

  • Proven ability to lead with authority and through influence by building effective relationships both internally and externally

  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering an integrated strategic communications plan in a global, matrix organization with varied priorities and stakeholders

  • Excellent writing ability and range, as well as strong interpersonal skills and persuasive presentation and public speaking skills

  • Experience managing budgets and high-performing teams, including hiring, developing, and retaining talent
