Pearson Product Manager, eCommerce in Hoboken, New Jersey

Position Purpose:

Pearson’s Global Digital Channels and Experience team is looking for a Product Manager, eCommerce who will be responsible to work with various cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize and document critical digital business requirements in a holistic direct-to-consumer (DTC) eCommerce product roadmap. S/he will coordinate with Capability Leads to ensure cross-product synergies, and direct and oversee business requirement definition, informing the roadmap. This critical role will work closely with relevant cross-functional teams across Pearson, including but not limited to Engineering, Design, Analytics, Content, Operations, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Legal and Customer Support.

This role requires a strong understanding of product management, keen attention to detail, proven ability to lead distributed teams and experience collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes. The candidate is expected to have good knowledge of eCommerce best practices, industry trends and actively contribute to building a world-class, consumer grade eCommerce experience for Pearson.

The position needs the ability to adapt and learn quickly to launch new products and enable new geographies on Pearson’s eCommerce platform. Being able to identify the MVP for each new initiative, build stakeholder buy-in and relentlessly lead the execution against it is a must.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gain a holistic understanding of customers’ needs and identify the most optimal user experience required to support that, with a keen eye for building beautiful, scalable products

  • Bridge the technology and business worlds by breaking down complex problems to outline the key business requirements and articulate them into technical features in a holistic product roadmap to drive prioritized implementation of best-in-class solution against the stipulated timelines

  • Develop a product vision based on the business objectives, breaking down high level requirements into deliverable user stories. Work hand-in-glove with Engineering, Design and Quality Assurance teams to develop these stories during agile sprints and deliver top-notch product at each release

  • Possess superior project management skills and a strong attention to detail combined with a deep understanding of latest digital/eCommerce technologies on web and native mobile platforms

  • Initiate and prioritize projects, assist in determining the best technical implementation methods, track product development, and develop product launch plans

  • Envision, manage and communicate priorities, roadmap and eCommerce product strategy to business and technology stakeholders

  • Evaluate multiple internal/external data points to inform critical thinking and create compelling innovative solutions to identified problems

Must Have Attributes:

  • 3+ years in Product Management, or similar role in Software, SaaS or Technology related industries

  • BS/BA in Engineering, Computer Science or related field

  • Robust structured project management skills are desirable

  • Naturally inquisitive, independent critical thinker, proactive problem-solver and detail-oriented, grounded in sound business judgement

  • Proven ability to collaborate with Technical, Design and Business teams to drive desired outcomes

  • Demonstrated aptitude to manage requirements definition and product development to successfully deliver key objectives via structured, agile execution

  • Proven ability to coordinate backlog management and prioritization across diverse (sometimes competing) stakeholders

  • Strong understanding of eCommerce system architecture and in-depth knowledge of Agile process and principles

  • Strong experience with design thinking framework and A/B, MVT and other testing methods

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate product vision to stakeholders and senior executives

  • Strong experience with JIRA, Confluence and roadmap planning tools (like Aha!) is strongly desired, along with a robust understanding of Agile scrum, SDLC methodologies and eCommerce and content management platforms (Hybris & AEM)

  • Ideas driven: You have the capacity to be open to new ideas, ambiguity and comfortable exploring areas with little oversight where there are no right answers
