Summary Description of Role

The Head of Technology Procurement shall be responsible for ensuring that Pearson maximises value from third party technology spend across the Group whilst minimising risk. The individual will build strong, trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and lead a team of global procurement professionals to help the business deliver on both its’ tactical and strategic directives.

Scope

The technology procurement team shall be responsible for the management and coordination of c. £350m per annum in third party spend across end user computing, cloud and datacenter, network, mobile, security, software and professional services. The team shall be responsible for stakeholder management, category management, sourcing, supplier relationship management and establishing guided buying channels enabling users to quickly and efficiently order from preferred suppliers.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead a team of procurement professionals to establish category plans, preferred supplier lists, execute sourcing strategies, manage risk, drive innovation and manage key suppliers

  • Develop and execute a robust stakeholder management strategy - translating business priorities into sourcing initiatives that deliver agreed outcomes

  • Utilise spend analytics to prioritise initiatives and proactively recommend strategies for maximising value

  • Deliver measurable savings against agreed targets

  • Personally lead and support major deals within technology procurement

  • Work in collaboration with the extended team to drive function wide objectives – including enabling guided buying channels

  • In conjunction with legal, ensure sourcing contracts protect Pearson’s interests and drive robust risk strategies whilst promoting sustainability and diversity

  • Approve all technology third party spend above agreed thresholds

  • Make an active and material contribution to the Procurement senior leadership team and promote best practice to ensure that the function meets its' short and long-term objectives

  • Attract, retain and develop talent

  • Establish and utilise network to keep abreast of industry best practice and drive innovation

  • Host regular 1 to 1s, team meetings and create an environment which promotes constructive challenge, delivery, innovative thinking, accountability and a sense of fun

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience/Education

  • 10 years relevant experience

  • Able to influence externally at C-suite level and internally to at least SVP

  • Articulate with strong communication, people, and leadership skills

  • Experience of leading both virtual and physical global teams

  • Ability to lead by influence rather than authority when necessary

  • Strong problem solving and change management ability

  • Evidence of managing strategic relationships, negotiating complex, high value third party agreements and ability to influence at highest levels internally and externally

  • Natural ability to interact positively with all internal stakeholders across cultures, countries and professional disciplines

  • Able to maintain impartiality and drive business outcomes
