We are looking for a dynamic and experienced communications professional to take on the role of Global Social Media Director on the Global Brand team. This role will help Pearson build a full social media program, aimed at significantly elevating the company’s digital presence as the leader in lifelong learning in today’s talent economy. The director will be responsible for all aspects of social media strategy and execution across Pearson’s global brand channels.

The ideal candidate, will have strong experience in building and managing successful digital and content strategies for global marketing and communications cross-functional teams in multiple channels, including digital video, branded editorial content, social channel programming strategies. This person will need a proven track record of running a creative, agile, full-scale social program for a major brand and will bring advanced knowledge of social and digital channels and how to use them opportunistically, with proven results. The director must be plugged into social and cultural trends and understand how to leverage Pearson as a contributor to the big conversations happening in the world. He or she will also be a major culture ambassador inside the team and the company. This role reports to VP, Innovation Communications, and will be based out of our Hoboken, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Align social strategies and content to Pearson’s key growth and brand goals, articulating metrics and path for success

  • Develop social media and content strategies that help Pearson connect to key audiences, growing positive Pearson brand perception and consumer relationships through earned and owned channels.

  • Define and galvanize Pearson’s brand voice across social media

  • Lead the development and management of social media strategy around paid & owned, including – developing points of view on how to approach new channels, content distribution opportunities and paid social approach.

  • Lead the development of a community management program to build proactive engagement with customers, influencers and other stakeholders

  • Contribute to communicating Pearson’s innovation story through concepting and development of key Pearson and learner-centric stories, across channels and formats

  • Find innovative ways to tailor existing content allowing it to live in multiple places and channels, leveraging the unique strength of the channel and consumer behaviors.

  • Develop, execute and maintain a global programming calendar that reflects marketing and communications content and programming tactics, collaborating with key cross- functional team members and partner agencies.

  • Help drive internal thinking about how Pearson shows up in the world and articulate POVs with clear executable tactics that will help test and prove new ways Pearson can communicate with key audiences.

  • Collaborate with all GCAM functions including, financial communications, strategy and operations, government affairs and key functions outside of GCAM including Strategy, North America and Product

  • Establish key metrics and benchmarks for content activity and analyze insights to inform ongoing work

  • Manage and integrate with in house resources a team of agencies and consultants responsible for content development and social media support

  • Manage and mentor more junior team members to help develop our talent across GCAM

  • Leadership : Help manage the planning, budgeting, and governance of GCAM work related to for content and programming



  • 10 years of experience managing full scale social and digital programs for a consumer brand, or marquee non profit or education brand

  • Proven track record growing and strengthening digital content and social media channels in support of purpose led brand

  • Hands on experience with platform and community management along with social listening

  • Experience developing sophisticated, hyper engaging content

  • Deep understanding of paid media tactics, including creating, tracking and communicating key performance indicators across digital channels.

  • Experience managing and selecting agencies. Experience coaching and developing internal teams is a plus.

  • Experience programming campaign (advertising and editorial) content across digital channels and in various formats (video, audio, photo, text, graphics)

  • Ability to be a culture carrier within an organization and inspire others with positive attitude and enthusiasm
