Pearson Associate Software Developer in Hadley, Massachusetts

The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson VUE offers dynamic teacher licensing and performance assessment solutions. Our custom teacher licensure testing programs are 100 percent aligned to state standards. We also provide a wide variety of teacher licensure testing services such as test development, administration, and scoring. We work in a collaborative environment and are passionate about education.

The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson works with multiple partners, including other Pearson groups, to develop and maintain highly scalable Web applications. These applications share information between Pearson groups, customers, and clients. Development and testing follow the agile methodology.

The Associate Software Developer is responsible for the understanding, troubleshooting, support, and development of complex software applications in a team environment. The Associate Software Developer works with both offshore and on-site development teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support, maintain and implement features of software applications by following Pearson practices and standards. Provide support to operational teams for troubleshooting and evaluating solutions for production software systems.

Engage with customer support, software developers and team lead, project managers, software quality assurance analysts, and database administrators to provide quality solutions to trouble tickets and development of software features.

Collaborate with software development team to align work with Pearson goals and to ensure best practices for software quality and security.

Learn and promote best practices for software security, performance, and maintainability in software development.

Participate in code reviews with peers and supervisor.

Employ strong organizational and planning skills to manage support tickets and software development processes.

Participate in daily stand-up meeting to share assigned work and progress.

Advise software quality assurance group on development of test plans for integration and system test coverage and execution for your solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in a Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, technical discipline or equivalent technical work experience

Acedemic or business experience developing software with a team

Experience with data querying, software/database integrations, and other DBMS considerations like data security, encryption/decryption preferably using Microsoft SQL Server

Experience developing secure web services using SOAP/WCF/Web API or similar protocols and technologies

Experience with or knowledge of release engineering, systems integration or configuration management experience building and deploying web-based or distributed applications using Microsoft tools and technologies including Visual Studio, Windows Server, IIS, ASP.NET, ASP, SQL Server

Experience with or knowledge of build automation, continuous integration and other Agile development techniques preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent customer service attitude

Experience with or knowledge of building web and client-server applications and services using Microsoft tools and technologies such as C#, ASP.NET, WCF, MVC, Web API, SQL Server

Experience with or knowledge of complying with standards for mission-critical enterprise software requirements for system performance, scalability, security, data protection and encryption, regulation compliance, usability, ease of implementation, supportability, maintainability, and data center considerations

Good understanding of client-side technologies like JavaScript frameworks/libraries, CSS/SASS/LESS frameworks, AJAX/XMLHttpRequest, JSON, HTML5.

Working knowledge of web standards and web browser capabilities; ability to create cross-browser, cross-platform, WCAG 2.0 Compliant/accessible pages

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of Agile/iterative software development methodologies

Ability to clearly articulate and document technical practices for the purposes of sharing support prcesses, code reviews, and communication of fixes and solutions to business users

Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities

Ability to work in a deadline driven environment
