The Accounting Manager is responsible for providing accounting and financial services to a portfolio of charter school customers. The Accounting Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Charter School Financial Services and will manage accounting staff including hiring, training, assigning and directing of work flow. In addition, the Accounting Manager will ensure that deliverables are accurately and timely processed, will analyze financial results and prepare and present monthly financial reports. This position interacts on a regular basis with upper management and external customers as well as management of internal departments and external auditors.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage and supervise the monthly close, general ledger and financial reporting functions for multiple customers;

  • Responsible for the review and approval of journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analyses;

  • Manage the preparation and distribution of the monthly board financial packages for the charter schools;

  • Provide support to charter school boards including presenting financial updates at the monthly board meetings and providing financial training/presentations as assigned;

  • Establish staff performance goals for direct reports;

  • Manage annual financial statement audits and other school audits on behalf of charter schools;

  • Responsible for maintaining fiscal compliance over federal programs in accordance with federal circulars (A-87, A-133, etc.) and manage all grant reporting requirements on behalf of the charter schools;

  • Responsible for reviewing key agreements and contracts to ensure compliance with all financial terms and that related transactions are recorded appropriately;

  • Ensure the timely and accurate submission of all state, federal, and authorizer financial reporting requirements. This includes fulfilling any special financial request made by such agencies;

  • Evaluate charter school fiscal policies and internal controls and assist the charter schools with maintaining compliance;

  • Ensure all tax filings are prepared and filed;

  • Lead or participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Great Plains accounting software and FRx financial reporting software

  • CPA preferred

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.

  • Experience in a multi-company environment

  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience including 3 years of supervisory experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the not-for-profit (501(c)3) or education industry

  • Minimum of 5 years experience providing accounting and/or auditing services

  • Demonstrate experience with developing internal controls, project management and process improvement

  • Strong and practical working knowledge of accounting theory and practices particularly related to not-for-profit and fund accounting

  • Proficiency utilizing accounting software

  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office products including advanced knowledge of Excel
