Position Summary :

This position acts as senior advisor, researcher, and technical support for all technical aspects of the training development team. This role is expected to possess an in-depth knowledge of the available and emerging technologies in the tech education space to advise on appropriate technical solutions for current and future learning solutions. The Senior Instructional Developer partners with senior instructional designers to determine and document appropriate technical solutions, ensuring they are infused with sound instructional reasoning and enforce the efficacy of the learning solution, while also aligning with a project’s scope and business/technical requirements. Additionally, this role acts as primary point of contact and oversees the conceptualization and development of functional prototypes, product builds and troubleshooting, and testing errors. This position also innovates new custom solutions with available and emerging technologies to offer innovative, new instructional tools for use in production efforts.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Lead the research and determination of appropriate technical solutions in all project initiatives, ensuring that all technical capabilities/limitations are evaluated while considering emerging learning technologies for cutting-edge learning solutions

  • Partner with senior instructional designers during needs analysis and design phases to document feasible/appropriate/innovative technologies for the technical solution in designing learning solutions

  • Translate the technical & operational requirements as well as scope of projects into technical considerations for discussion/review

  • Advise/make recommendations for potential new technologies & tools for purchase and development opportunities based on educational technology research and organizational technology requirements

  • Design technical tenets of functional prototypes that align with project requirements and supervise the development of those prototypes

  • Develop well-written, technically accurate procedural or informational documentation, adhering to content development standards and style guides

  • Mastery in all ecosystem tools that will benefit or advance training development efforts

  • Responsible (in partnership with team managers) for future LMS set-up/administration duties

  • Conduct regular evaluations of existing learning analytics/metrics used in project initiatives and stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies for considering in refining/improving data analytics for training products

  • Create custom solutions in HTML5, JavaScript, and related programming languages to solve specific learning needs

  • Review produced assets for technical accuracy, accessibility development standards, and provide constructive feedback for ongoing peer development

  • Mentor/coach junior members of development team in troubleshooting technical issues, build mechanics of authoring software, and testing failures

  • Act as top escalation tier for technical troubleshooting related to build and testing issues

  • Manage multiple tasks across multiple project initiatives, adhering to task deadlines and project schedules.

  • Communicate and document project issues/decisions effectively and succinctly with functional manager, project manager, and peers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the K-12 education space, teaching background a plus

  • Experience with learning management systems

  • Exposure to mLearning designs and user interface considerations

  • Working understanding of 508 compliance, WCAG 2.0 guidelines, and accessibility design considerations

Requirements :

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience developing training-related projects in rapid development authoring tools and implementing HTML, JavaScript, and CSS coding

  • An advanced degree or certification in Instructional Technology or Instructional Systems Design or related technical program

  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience developing technical solutions using proven industry-recognized ISD models and cognitive-based reasoning

  • Prior experience in advising on technical solutions related to needs analysis & design phases with senior instructional designers

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in coaching/mentoring junior members and reviewing products for technical accuracy

  • Prior experience in working with QA/testing to collaborate on appropriate testing approaches for training initiatives

  • Mastery of Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Snag-it, production graphics software, and other authoring/development tools

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot & problem solve technical issues for technologies used in multimedia production

  • Strong analytical and research skills for conducting thorough analysis of the learning space with a keen focus on identifying new technologies and applications and translating them into practical applications for learning solutions

  • Strong writing skills in technical/procedural/informational documentation

  • Keen eye for visual design related to user experience and understanding of storyboarding mechanics

  • A detailed attention to grammar and punctuation, visual design and layout, audio accuracy, and effective presentation layout

  • Keen ability to explain your thoughts and technical approaches/issues, clearly and in plain English, to people who are not technically savvy or knowledgeable on tools’ technical capabilities
