Position Summary:

Working from our office in Columbia, MD, Boston, MA or from a home office, the Curriculum Product Manager for World Language, AP and Electives reports to the Director of Curriculum Product Management while working alongside the Director of Humanities Curriculum Product Management. Our Product Managers assess the market and customer need, create a product strategy for a course portfolio, define the roadmap for the products, monitor their development and delivery, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. The team works closely with Curriculum Developers and Content Production to ensure the customer and market need for Pearson’s products are carried through into course development.

The Curriculum Product Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams to ideate, initiate, receive, and manage the prioritization of requests for new courses and course updates across various subject areas. This person will specialize in the area of World Language, AP and Electives; and participate in the management of the lifecycle of the courses in their specialty area. To accomplish this, the Curriculum Product Manager must continually analyze all relevant markets from a current and prospective customer, technology, and competitive perspective, taking into consideration the current market environment, potential future developments, specific and broader industry trends, available data analysis, and the company’s ability to address such conditions in a timely and competitive fashion now and in the future. The Curriculum Product Manager will hold a high level of subject-matter knowledge and industry knowledge and is able to critically think through issues and prioritize requests. This person will inform the multi-year strategy for the company, develop and refine the product roadmap, and ensure successful communication and implementation of all agreed-upon initiatives and their outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, collaborating with Curriculum Development, Program Management, Product Management and other cross-functional areas to develop, refine, interpret, and share product vision, while monitoring and ensuring its execution through the development and periodic refinement of key course requirements.

  • Develop expertise in a portfolio of products/services and manage them throughout the Pearson product lifecycle. Specifically, collaborate on the management of the receipt and prioritization of requests for new courses, course updates, and course customizations across various subject areas and customers.

  • Develop and continually refine vision and roadmaps for OBL’s curriculum-based products based on our strategic and investment priorities

  • Leverage Pearson’s market research, competitive intelligence, and user experience research capabilities to reflect the voice of the customer in all curriculum roadmaps

  • Ensure all stakeholder voices are heard and clear priorities are set for delivery teams

Participate and help to manage meetings with relevant stakeholders to appropriately prioritize relevant all course development requests in accordance with Agile methodology. This will involve working closely with a variety of departments, including Curriculum Development, Market Research, and Program Quality.

  • Work with OBL research teams to help define, measure, and improve the efficacy of our products

  • Clearly communicate business cases to the team and stakeholders, articulating both the product’s value proposition, as well as defining and measuring metrics for its success

  • Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and competitive analyses to identify new opportunities and initiatives which ultimately serve the long-term strategy

Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Curriculum Product Management and other Product Management team members to prioritize course development requests, inform the multi-year strategy for the product for the company, develop and refine the product roadmap, and ensure successful communication and implementation of all agreed-upon initiatives and their outcomes.

Using the established Product Management rubric and processes, score course requests for prioritization.

Bachelor’s degree in education, product management, or related field

5-7 years demonstrated experience in leading and/or product managing a portfolio of courses as it relates to World Language, AP and/or Elective courses.

Experience with efforts to ensure that customers and their needs are well understood and communicated so that the customer experience plays a central role in product/service definition, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.

Experience collaborating on the development of product roadmaps that feed into company strategy, including detailed technological implementations.

Successful experience in understanding the needs of the business.

Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment where recommendations drive strategy

Strong problem solving, analytical, critical-thinking, and project management skills

Ability to learn quickly and use sound business judgement at all times

Curious, self-motivated, and self-directed, while maintaining the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to present findings to management. Must be able to translate data into information, then highlight insights and conclusions to provide business recommendations that can be acted upon;

Ability to develop strong relationships and work with management in various departments of the company

Excellent customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in K-12 online education industry, ed tech space, and/or curriculum publishing

Master’s degree in education, product management, or related field
