Position Summary

Pearson Online & Blended Learning (POBL) offers a combination of web-based, asynchronous and synchronous online training, development sessions for our school customers located across the country. Working from our office in Columbia, MD, and remotely at a home office, the People Development Specialist will be responsible for working with key stakeholders to identify gaps in performance and behavior to design learning solutions to meet the priorities and needs of our school customers. This individual will develop both asynchronous learning bites and/or toolkits and content for synchronous programs, which includes developing, designing and implementing effective general professional soft skill development.

The People Development Specialist will focus primarily on serving staff level roles across the school customer population. This role will manage the following programs and services:

  • THRIVE: mentor program for new teachers and staff level, non-instructional roles;

  • The Learning Curve: synchronous and asynchronous soft skill development program;

  • myLearning: centralized site for school staff with resources focused on general learning and development

This is an individual contributor role and will report to the Director of School Organizational Effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge in general soft skills to manage quality programs and resources to support general professional development for school customers;

  • Develop and deliver (live) virtual training sessions that are highly engaging, interactive and effectively utilizes adult learning theories/practices with the aid of our technology (including: whiteboards, polls, breakout rooms, video and screen share);

  • Responsible for planning, researching, and writing for asynchronous content focused on soft/hard skill development resources including toolkits, guides, short video, interactive tutorials and worksheets;

  • Develop asynchronous content and infographics in coordination with the Multimedia Standards and Design team as needed to support the training needs of the customer;

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the various learning and development programs, content and materials and provide recommendations for enhancements;

  • Conduct training needs assessment to identify gaps between necessary skills and development opportunities and recommend solutions;

  • Work collaboratively with other key stakeholders to ensure consistency in product and service offerings related to learning and development;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Learning and Development, Human Resources, Organizational Development or related field

  • Expertise in adult learning principles, soft skills, and leadership development

  • Degree in Communications, HR, Psychology, or related field preferred

  • Preferably with experience in Online/Digital Training.

  • Technology proficient

  • Technology applications used in this role include: Google applications, Microsoft applications including Microsoft Sharepoint, Zoom webinar platform
