The Senior Systems Engineer – Linux Platform is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting the production servers and handling requests and problem escalations from Service Desk and other departments. The engineer determines the severity of issues (triage), prioritizes issues, performs diagnosis of system and software components to identify root cause, and acts or recommends corrective action for resolution.

The engineer will work with other networks, databases, software & quality engineering teams, and technical product managers and vendors to clearly state problems, troubleshoot, diagnose and/or resolve complex technical issues.

Technical Competencies

  • 5+ years of experience working in enterprise-level Linux and/or Unix server environments with extensive knowledge of systems and server maintenance. (CentOS, RedHat, Ubuntu)

  • 1+ Years of experience working with multiple cloud providers such as Azure, GCP & AWS.

  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chef.

  • Solid knowledge of TCP/IP networking, and related network services ( DNS, SMTP, DHCP, SFTP, FTP, etc.)

  • Solid knowledge of centralized authentication methods for Linux servers such as Active Directory and LDAP.

  • Experience with scripting using at least one language such as BASH, Python, Perl, Go, etc.

  • Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems in bare metal or virtual/cloud environments.

  • Experience in SAN/NAS configuration and migration.

  • Experience with ITSM (Change, Incident, Service request management) specially using the ServiceNow platform.

  • At least conceptual knowledge of network technologies (firewall, switches, router, load balancers, etc)

  • General knowledge of virtualization concepts (VMWare)

  • Knowledge in different server backup technologies such as TSM, NetBackup, etc.

  • Knowledge and experience in antivirus and malware engines (Bitdefender, Symantec, etc)

  • Knowledge of IPS IDS tools such as TrendMicro would be a plus.

  • Experience with infrastructure as a code. (IE. Terraform) would be a plus.

  • Sound knowledge in server hardening.

  • Sound well in source control tools such as Bitbucket, GitHub, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, RunDeck

  • Ability to work with Vendors and other internal teams to optimize systems use and configuration.

  • Development of Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) Identify and track Continuous Improvement opportunities.

  • Ability to work on a 16x5 rotating shift and able to adjust work schedule.

  • Ability to cover on-call and support critical issues during weekends and holidays.

Educational & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or any other equivalent qualification.

  • Redhat Certified Systems Administrator

  • Redhat Certified Engineer

  • ITIL – Foundation

  • AWS Certified Architect - Associate certification.

  • Certified in Terraform Associate would be an added qualification
