Network Build Engineer

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

In order to be effective in this role you will need to have the following skills and experience:

  • 7 years experience in enterprise data networking, both in a build and support environment

  • Engineering experience within NetDevOps Agile environment

  • In-depth, hands on experience with AWS and other cloud vendors

  • Experience with software-defined networking (SDN/SD-WAN) and network-function virtualization

  • Experience with Automation and Orchestration platforms i.e. ansible etc

  • Practical knowledge of shell scripting and at least one scripting language i.e. Python, Ruby, Perl

Knowledge and experience in delivery to cloud, particular AWS (Azure and GCP as an advantage)

  • Extensive comprehensive understanding of Cisco hardware and it’s capabilities

  • Extensive comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP, QoS, BGP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, EIGRP, Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols

  • Install, configure, and support Cisco LAN, WAN, and Wireless infrastructure including Nexus platforms

  • Install, configure, and support F5 LTM and GTM load-balancers

Knowledge and experience with IPAM solutions, more specifically Infoblox

  • Install, configure, and support Security devices; Checkpoint, Cisco ASAs and Fortinet

  • Experience other Network Security infrastructure for example, IPS/IDS and DDoS Protection

  • Produce thorough and detailed documentation for installed environments

  • Ability to understand, comply, and contribute to documented network standards

  • Experience of achieving consensus through facilitating a collaborative planning process

  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, to effectively summarise issues, bottlenecks and challenges and provide considered and logical recommendations for addressing them

  • Experience of working in an environment with multiple handoffs and team interactions

  • Successful track record in a large (20,000 user) Global Enterprise network

  • TIL knowledge or prior experience in an ITIL managed environment - Specifically with ITSM tool ServiceNow

  • Proven successful delivery of high-quality, cost-effective infrastructure services in a complex, high-availability environment

  • Proven ability to plan and execute highly complex workload in apressurised, dynamic environment on time and to budget


  • Cisco CCNA certification (having CCNP/CCSP/CCVP would be an added advantage)

  • Cisco Wireless certification(s) preferred

  • Cloud certifications such as Amazon AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Certified Advanced Networking

  • F5 Certifications for LTM/GTM

  • Firewall related certifications ( Fortigate/Checkpoint/Cisco ) are preferred

  • ITIL Foundation or higher is preferred

Additional Desired Certifications


  • Checkpoint - CCSA or CCSE

  • Fortinet - FCNSA

  • Agile or DevOps/NetDevOps/DevSecOps certifications


A minimum of Bachelor's Degree or higher although relevant experience will also be taken into consideration
