Overview

We are looking for an outstanding Director of Platform & Infrastructure Engineering with extensive experience working with both Operations and Product Engineering teams on service delivery in highly available, large-scale production environments.

Job Requirement

  • Lead the vision, strategy and roadmap for building a reliable, scalable infrastructure in both Public and Private clouds

  • Ensures 24x7 operations of key platform, infrastructure and network services

  • Drive solution architecture. Define tools and technology that are best suited to meet customer needs based on defined priorities, specified timeline and available resources. Translate customer requirements into design that can be implemented by technical teams.

  • Provides expertise in Design, Architecture, Development, Continuous Integration and Delivery.

  • Expert in providing oversight, mentoring team members and leading large development efforts. Experienced in effectively delegating work.

  • Help lead the transformation from our legacy monolith infrastructure to a modern scalable service based system.

  • Own the execution, tracking, and delivery of Service Level Agreement (SLA) and operation Level Agreements (OLAs), as well as identifying additional KPIs for delivering a first-class service to our customers.

  • Innovate with cloud architecture and product delivery teams to deliver infrastructure as code using DevOps tools and methodologies

  • Analyze complex business needs and recommend technology solutions to support and improve the Company’s large-scale SaaS offering

  • Direct implementation and execution of system improvements via well-defined plans including procedures, deadlines and accountability

  • Understand large-scale product architectures and the production ecosystem in which they live in order to develop capacity plans, SLA metrics and standards, plan product launches and releases, and solve operability challenges

  • Provide critical thought leadership and expertise on best practices and approaches to ensure Cloud migration deliverables remain on track and delivered as committed

  • Maintain knowledge on current and emerging Cloud developments/trends, assess the impact, and collaborate with executive/senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future Cloud strategies

  • Create, lead and drive the identification, development, and implementation of strategic process improvements that improve quality across the team, business unit and/or the organization as it relates to Cloud transformation

  • Create, lead, drive and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within the Cloud and Technology Infrastructure space

  • Provide highly specialized expertise and thought leadership to internal/external stakeholders for the Cloud space

  • Build organizational capability within the Cloud space

  • Ensure all Tech Op’s processes and activities are communicated and coordinated internally and across functions, supporting Pearson’s overall plan and objectives, and are effective expenditure of resources.

Personal

  • Deeply familiar with understanding distributed system design, micro service architecture, containers and dependency management. You will understand how teams need to work to manage this inherent complexity

  • An experienced technology leader - leading, establishing, and managing enterprise DevOps, CI/CD solutions, automation and configuration management.

  • A leader with a proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale services on public clouds such as AWS.

  • Passionate about building an inclusive engineering culture, with teams that are both eager to learn and deeply curious

  • Experience leading large, global engineering organizations

  • Demonstrated Strong Software engineering operations skills

  • Experience resolving conflict & priority issues

  • Awareness of and ability to deliver on compliance requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interface and influence at all levels in the organization

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills

  • Practical knowledge of ITIL application processes and implementation, DevOps and Agile processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related field. 10 years of technical system, application development or system integration experience.

  • Senior level manager with demonstrated experience in managing IT infrastructure and operations of similar or greater size/complexity/business criticality

  • 10 to 15 years of IT and business/industry work experience
