Description

TQ Education & Training (part of the Pearson Group) is a provider of outsourced training services to the UK Ministry of Defence, other public sector organisations and private companies both in the UK and overseas. This role will support functional skills delivery as part of the Army Phase RLC Apprenticeship contract with the MoD.

Responsible for delivering English, Mathematics and ICT Functional Skills qualifications to the Army’s Royal Logistic Corps soldiers under instruction at Merville Barracks, Colchester. This role also involves delivering Functional Skills to apprentices from other Pearson TQ Work Based Learning contracts.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To deliver Level 1 and 2 Functional Skills Training to Apprenticeship learners ensuring the quality, security and confidentiality of learner evidence.

  • To conduct accurate assessment of learner evidence and revision and provide constructive feedback.

  • Prepare and administer exams from set up to invigilation.

  • To maintain direct control and supervision of all learners undergoing training.

  • To complete any outstanding reviews with learners who are attending Functional Skills classes.

  • To maintain accurate daily records of learner’s attendance and achievements and report any absentees.

  • To provide relevant statistical data to Company Management.

  • Attend training, standardisation meetings and QA panels as required.

  • To manage own administration and work in conjunction with all delivery staff.

  • To accurately use SOP 23 as a management tool to support learners through to timely completion.

  • To develop learner material ensuring the Functional Skills programme is updated in accordance with the standards and Awarding Body requirements.

  • To ensure individual targets are achieved and work towards any qualifications required for the role.

STANDARD

  • To apply the Company’s safeguarding policy and procedure and raise any issues with a designated person.

  • To take reasonable care of own health, safety and welfare and that of other persons who may be affected by his or her acts or omissions in the work place.

  • To inform Line Manager of any work situation that presents a potential or actual H&S at Work hazard.

  • To follow instructions and co-operate in respect of any imposed H&S duty or requirement and to use equipment supplied for H&S reasons.

  • To support the Company in ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

  • Work to promote and contribute to the Company’s Equality and Diversity policies.

  • To participate in the Company’s staff appraisal ensuring set objectives are achieved.

  • This post is subject to a 3 year rolling Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

Qualifications

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL

  • Relevant teaching and/or training qualification (i.e. Cert Ed, PGCE, CTLLS, DTLLS)

  • Level 2 qualification in Mathematics and English

  • Experience of delivering Functional Skills (Mathematics & English) to level 2

  • Ability to embrace and develop practical and innovative delivery models for Functional Skills outside of classroom delivery models

  • Ability to adopt industry specific contextualised Functional Skills delivery models

  • Good ICT skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

  • Flexible, adaptable and enthusiastic team-worker

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of working with the military or of delivering Functional Skills to soldiers

  • Experience of delivering Functional Skills to level 2 in the workplace

  • Experience of delivering Functional Skills to level 2 using practical delivery models

The successful applicant will be required to undertake the 18.5 hours per week within a 2 week block period each month.

There is potential for additional hours within this post.
