The VP Strategy & Innovation will be responsible for building an innovation strategy and designing and driving an innovation agenda that builds on Pearson Online Learning Services’ leading position in Online Program Management and Virtual Education. Reporting to the Managing Director and operating as a member of the leadership team, this role focuses on digital innovation for products, programs, and services (new and existing) for Academic Partners and Learners. By owning the product lifecycle, enhances product management capability and processes applied to service design and delivery. Responsible for overall strategy and the design, testing and establishment of new business models – in service of academic partners and in the direct-to-consumer space.
Working with the leadership team to shape and define POLS’ innovative products strategy, including which markets to enter, articulating, and refining our competitive advantage, key growth opportunities and trends to focus on, drawing on market trends, insights from adjacent markets, customer feedback and developments in EdTech.
Working closely with the Business Development team to define and drive key opportunities to invest in, including the development of business cases and plans to grow and the development of new business models with global scale.
Lead on innovation, including the development of an innovation framework, ensuring successful incubation models are transitioned effectively to business as usual.
Shepherding new business models along the developing Innovation Framework, applying the appropriate “kill / pivot” strategies when required.
Building an investment and innovation framework aligned to the overall strategy, including an approach to partnering or investing in startups / early-stage firms working with colleagues across Pearson.
Representing Pearson Online Learning Services externally and internally at senior levels, including Pearson’s Executive Management.
Maintaining currency with the education space and forecasting trends and opportunities within it.
Working closely with senior leadership team colleagues to enable appropriate allocation of resources to incubation models, and expansion initiatives within existing lines of business
The successful candidate must have extensive experience in and knowledge of the education sector as well as a profound understanding of how to deliver education services in a digital environment and increasingly in a direct-to-consumer model. They should be comfortable interacting with senior stakeholders within Pearson and across the global education network. Experience of working in international education environments is a plus.
Proven track record of identifying and defining growth opportunities, within a business or through consultancy, leveraging data and analytics to build the supporting business case for investment.
Experience in management consulting, business strategy, strategic finance, or M&A required.
Ability to align colleagues and resources around incubating opportunities to ensure accurate appraisal and implementation if successful.
Ability to influence within and across Divisions, experience partnering with cross-functional teams is required.
Experience of diagnosing customer hot spots and solving for them in collaboration with product.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
Strong commitment to timelines, accuracy, and professionalism.
Team leader, team player and positive attitude in a results-driven environment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with all levels of management.

- BA/BS degree from accredited institution required. Master’s degree preferred.
