Job Purpose:

You will lead a number of initiatives aimed at bringing Cloud capability to Pearson. Our Cloud Platform Project Managers will be critical to our goal of delivering an integrated Cloud Platform experience to Pearson’s developers. Our Cloud Platform initiative is scoped to cover environment automation, embedded operations tooling, containerised runtime environments and standardised application build pipelines. It will also cover integrating Cloud into Pearson at the business level through strong governance initiatives that enable us to grow Cloud adoption sustainably and efficiently.

The key outcomes of this role are:

  • Well scoped and managed projects that deliver changed capability within our cloud programme

  • Highly collaborative and effective relationships across partner teams and groups to maximise opportunities for change

  • Clarity of direction across all parties engaged in delivery and a high level of focus on success as a team that leads to delivery of expected benefits


  • This is a role with global, cross functional and cross line of business responsibilities

  • End to end project management of a variety of cloud platform initiatives from inception to closure across a number of methodologies including Agile and Waterfall

  • High level of focus on delivery, benefits, identifying opportunities and making a real difference through leadership of change

  • You will be working primarily with developers and engineers, you will serve as a lynchpin in translating the objectives of the programme into our technical communities

  1. Essential skills, qualifications and experience:

You will need to have a successful track record in cloud project delivery and see this role as a way to continue to build your career through high profile leadership. In order to effectively do that you will need to have the following skills and experience in a technical IT environment:

  • Experience working as a scrum master or agile coach driving sprints and key developer cadence

  • Previous accountability for significant cloud based project delivery activities with a demonstrable track record of success that you can evidence in a competency based interview

  • Practical understanding and application of varied methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall

  • Experience of working across matrix teams and resources, building collaboration and driving shared outcomes

  • Ability to identify opportunities, to effectively summarise issues, bottlenecks and challenges and provide considered and logical recommendations for addressing them

  • Understanding and practical experience of how work moves through a complex critical path with multiple dependencies and risks

  • Experience of working in an environment with multiple handoffs and team interactions

  • As a Technical Project Manager you will need to understand cloud and traditional hosting well enough to establish credibility and value to our partner development teams and platform engineering functions, without becoming bogged down in technical solutioning
