As a member of our Product Design team, you will live in a world where design meets engineering. You will be an active participant in the design process from user research through implementation. While you will have opportunities to design interfaces, your primary responsibility will be focused on the late stages of the design process where teams and the organization will rely on you to implement and coach proper HTML, CSS and presentation JavaScript techniques and best practices.

  • Serve as subject matter expert in HTML/CSS, LESS, Bootstrap and other front end tools within the Product Design team and across project teams.

  • Project teams will rely on you to advise them on the best approach for implementing a design

  • You will be actively involved in multiple projects across varying contexts, either embedded or consultative in nature.

  • You will work closely with the Product Designers and cross functional members within project teams

  • Your role will vary based on project needs; as both design creator and implementer, or one or the other.

  • With the ever changing landscape of technology paired with client and customer needs, you need to have the ability to think on the fly, find inventive but scaleable ways to solve unforeseen and unplanned challenges.

  • UI development using HTML, CSS, LESS, Bootstrap, Javascript to rapidly create prototypes and support product team implementation and releases. Propose new frameworks for UI development.

  • Product standards managing, maintaining, advising, and growing the design framework for Pearson VUE

  • Product Design proposing feasible experiences through discussion or visual artifacts, such as mockups. Communicate and negotiate ideas given technical and business needs.

  • Experience coding for AngularJS directives

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and how to build accessible web applications

  • Experience with Git or other version control systems

  • Strong, visual and user-focused design skills and the ability to recreate detailed designs

  • Participates in high-level and project level estimation and solutioning activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Computer Science, graphic design, related field OR 2-4 years experience in relevant work

  • Detailed knowledge and proficiency in HTML/CSS, LESS, Bootstrap and other front end tools

  • Rapid HTML/CSS prototyping

  • Understanding of responsive development and usability. Accessibility standards is a plus

  • Understand and can confidently speak to UI/UX and design best practices

  • Enterprise application development

  • Knowledge of agile development methodology

  • Continual learning of emerging technologies/industry trends

  • An online portfolio and live URLs demonstrating excellence in front-end code for websites and/or web applications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Implement front end HTML/CSS/JS pages and features using Pearson VUE’s design framework

  • Develop and manage LESS stylesheets for the organization and project teams.

  • Contribute to, maintain, and optimize Pearson VUE’s design framework.

  • Rapidly build simple prototypes for user testing and feature validation with Design and Engineering teams using Pearson VUE’s front end framework

  • Provide guidance to other developers on best practices in front-end development and user interface development.

  • Create and collaborate on conceptual wireframes, user flows, and design mockups of user interfaces in cooperation with business and designers.

  • Assure support across a variety of platforms, browsers, and devices.

  • Actively engage with business and development teams in an agile and distributed work environment.

  • Proven ability to quickly learn new processes and tools, business domains, and technical applications

  • Strong cross-functional communication skills; verbal, written, and visual.
