The Systems Analyst is responsible for recommending, provisioning, installing/configuring, operating and maintaining all back end systems necessary to run the Pearson VUE business.

The Systems Analyst ensures that system hardware, operating systems, middleware and software meet and adhere to internal organizational standards. The successful candidate will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the internal infrastructure. This position requires knowledge in a number of technical areas as well as the ability to solve real time production problems quickly in a high pressure environment.

This individual will assist business and software development project teams with technical issues during all stages of client onboarding from Initiation and Planning through Operationalization and Support phases. These activities include the definition of needs, technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.

Working closely with MIS management and team members, Corporate IS Shared Services, Database Administrators, Development, Quality Assurance, Configuration Management and business representatives, this individual focuses on backend hardware, software and middleware to ensure the proper system configuration and settings are in place. This person works on project teams as well as internal operations teams on various projects including server builds, audits, third party software installation and tuning, vendor evaluation, data integrity, capacity management, security, and performance. This person will be on a rotating pager schedule (typically one week per month).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Windows System Administration:Win2008 Server Configuration, Hardening and Support, Active Directory, Certificate Authority and IIS

  • Unix System Administration:Linux/Solaris Server Configuration, Hardening and Support

  • Application/Middleware:Work with other groups on installation, tuning and maintenance of middleware tools used to run internal applications.

  • Work closely with Development Teams:Provide infrastructure support and solutioning to software development teams

System Tuning/Security Hardening:Working with System Architects and security team to tune internal and third party applications as well securing all sensitive data and systems.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, other technical field and equivalent work experience/degree

  • 5 years working in network or systems administration

  • Experience with Windows and Linux-based operating system configuration and support

Desired Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience with IIS/Apache, JBOSS/Tomcat (HIGHLY PREFERED)

  • Experience with Java software hosting and application support (HIGHLY PREFERRED)

  • Experience working with various SDLC groups (Development, QA, Configuration Management) on project work as well as solving real time production system issues

  • Experience with Cisco switch, router, load balancing equipment

  • Exposure to Checkpoint and Cisco ASA firewalls

  • Experience with middleware, configuration and installation of third party software

  • Experience with SFTP and VPN technologies

  • Experience with IIS, Apache/JBOSS/Tomcat

  • Experience with disaster recovery and data replication techniques

  • Familiarity with monitoring and analytical tools such as Splunk and New Relic

  • Familiarity with IT audit activities as well as day to day security functions
