Summary Description of Role

The Master Data Lead shall form part of the Management Information team and act as the custodian of Procurement-owned Master Data and responsible for ensuring robust data across a complex system landscape underpinning the Source-to-Pay processes.

The individual will be required to build credibility through demonstrating an understanding of current challenges and subsequently through recommendations, both in terms of specific solutions and industry best practices.

Scope

The Master Data Lead shall primarily be responsible for owning integrity of and driving improvements to key data objects including Vendor, Commodity taxonomy, Catalogue and Contracts across Pearson’s global system landscape.

The individual shall also be responsible for ensuring that a continuously evolving set of requirements i.e. risk, legislative, are being met through robust data-sets, reducing the risk of non-compliance to Pearson.

The Master Data Lead shall also identify opportunities to automate their activities where applicable.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develop master data strategy and governance framework for Procurement data

  • Use data, metrics and stakeholder feedback to identify and understand pain points and inefficiencies

  • Translation of business outcomes into requirements that will bring measurable improvements to the user experience and effectiveness of processes

  • Lead initiative to cleanse and normalise global vendor data

  • Identify opportunities for automation and the practical application of robotic and/or machine learning technologies

  • Make an active and material contribution to the Procurement team and promote best practice to ensure that the function meets it’s short and long-term objectives

  • Establish and utilise network to keep abreast of industry best practice and drive innovation

  • Able to work with closely with other data custodians to agree common standards and ways of working

  • Work in collaboration with the extended team to drive function and organisation wide objectives

  • Able to build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders in technology, finance and other areas

  • Be comfortable working in an environment which promotes constructive challenge, delivery, innovative thinking, accountability and a sense of fun

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience/Education

  • Relevant experience working within master data governance frameworks in large corporations

  • Knowledge of best practices of master data management

  • Experience across Source-to-Pay processes, systems and data objects

  • Hands on experience of Oracle, Coupa, OBIA and other enterprise systems

  • Appreciation of the benefits of cutting edge technologies e.g. RPA or Machine Learning and an understanding how these could be applied in a practical sense

  • A sharp focus on getting results and insights using the most practical and fastest approach.

  • Experience of working with both virtual and physical global teams

  • Curiosity and real passion for making an impact along with strong attention to detail.

  • Strong problem solving ability and comfortable with ambiguity

  • Natural ability to interact positively with all internal stakeholders across cultures, countries, and professional disciplines
