The Global Business Solutions (GBS) Consultant is responsible for managing the creation of service-and-technology–based solutions for Pearson VUE prospects and current clients. As a GBS Consultant, you would play a significant role during the business development phase by—
contributing expertise and support for the presales effort, proposal development, and bid process to ensure that every solution is “deliverable” from both operations and technology perspectives
gathering cost and time estimates for proposed solutions
You would also be responsible for managing solution creation and for gathering cost and time estimates for contract variances (CVs).
This is a very broad, hands-on role that requires an astute technical and operational mind coupled with the ability to think creatively and actively seek solutions that will meet regional sales and client needs.
The Global Business Solutions (GBS) team is a cross-functional team whose primary role is to identify product and service solutions for new and current client opportunities. Through strong partnership with Pearson VUE Technology, Product Management, Program Management, and Business Development, the GBS team assists in the design of new prospect and client services as well as ensuring that the solutions offered are fully scoped and costed. We operate based on market and competitive intelligence, prospect and client requirements, and functionality enhancements, both internal- and partnership-driven.
Key Team Attributes
Experience in business development support and solution implementation is essential. We provide key support to business development while simultaneously liaising with other teams responsible for implementing and operating client solutions.
This role is challenging, so a strong but fluid communication style is prerequisite, as are interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to influence both people and processes. The successful candidates will have a proven track record in managing change in complex environments and demonstrated ability to successfully manage business requirements across multiple clients, geographies, and systems.
Effective collaboration and focus are essential. Our team works closely with business development, proposals, legal, marketing, strategy, product management, and other support and delivery teams, taking full responsibility for defining and communicating priority of services and business propositions to meet prospect and client needs. We are instrumental in ensuring that proposals align with market needs and offer a competitive advantage and in relaying market and client requirements to internal teams for use in current and future product direction.
The Business Solutions Consultant will:
Contribute product and service expertise during the business development effort, including but not limited to involvement in sales calls and presentations
Participate in bid and new client business projects by developing and communicating solutions during the pre-implementation phase—capturing, clarifying, and communicating client requirements and driving internal agreement on the solution
Be a full and credible partner in solution definition and validate Pearson VUE’s and other Pearson services and products we have the capability to deliver
Participate in or assist with management of bid projects; coordinate the activities of other Pearson VUE operational staff to ensure high quality and timely delivery of proposals or similar output
Partner with the Account Executive/Business Development, Enterprise Architecture, and Product Management representatives to ensure that the best solution is proposed
Provide pragmatic and commercially sensible technology and operational consultation in the creation of bids during the presales phase
Assume full responsibility for ensuring the feasibility of proposed technology and operational delivery of projects, establishing and maintaining the appropriate structures and controls to achieve delivery within the timeline, budget, and quality agreed to during the presales phase
Ensure the completion of groundwork for the implementation team for Pearson VUE’s relationship with and expected contribution from third-party vendors and/or subcontractors on multi-vendor projects
Be responsible for the definition and documentation of business solutions for complex projects, directing and advising project team members and clients/users as necessary in the presales phase and subsequent transition to the implementation team
Participate in the product and service commercialization process to ensure that new offerings are documented and communicated to the rest of Pearson VUE
Use tools as required to generate department metrics and reports

Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a business, information systems, or computer science discipline or equivalent technical work experience required; related graduate degree preferred
Seasoned IT or business professional with a minimum of five years in business analysis, technical experience, customer management, and/or technology implementations
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated understanding of Pearson VUE and/or related technology, operations, and services
Ability to provide creative solutions to resolve business problems via customer requirements based on technology, process gaps, and cultural expectations
Ability to decipher and articulate data flows, data interchange methods, network topologies, technology stack, and services
Proficiency in the application of methods and techniques for reporting progress and financial compliance against an agreed plan
Familiarity with methods and techniques associated with planning and monitoring progress of projects (i.e., product/work breakdown structures, critical path analysis, earned value, resource analysis, conflict resolution)
Proficiency in the identification, assessment, and management of project risks that could result in time/cost overruns or failure to deliver products that are fit for purpose
Effective negotiation, listening, and influencing skills necessary to create and maintain successful business relationships
Strong commercial sense coupled with common sense and a balanced and pragmatic approach
