The Software Development Lead provides leadership and technical direction to a software development team within a specified product domain. The Development Lead works to create and implement a long-term vision, orchestrate high-quality software implementation, and maintain, guide, and improve architectural integrity and evolution for their assigned area. The Development Lead fosters high team morale, mentors and coaches team members, and ensures best practices and architectural guidelines are followed for their assigned area. Development Leads are also expected to continually contribute to process improvement activities.


  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent technology discipline

  • 6 years relevant software development experience including creating web based business applications with relational and non-relational database systems

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services

  • Experience with Java, JUnit and Node.js

  • 3 years experience in software architecture

  • 3 years experience in technical leadership

  • 3 years experience in programmatic interaction with relational database systems

  • IT Architecture experience in large project development, development lifecycles, development methodologies, project scoping, process improvement, and variety of technologies and tools is required

  • Experience in computer-based testing, certification, and licensing industry preferred

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand philosophy of architecture, particularly microservices based architectures, continuous integration and delivery

  • Ability to provide technical leadership to a team

  • Continuous expansion of knowledge in many development languages, applications, and tools

  • Enterprise knowledge of business and platforms across systems within our core technology service model

  • Strong technical and analytical skills

  • Proven ability to quickly learn new processes and tools, business domains, and technical applications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Creative problem-solving skills

  • Must be able to assimilate information, distill knowledge, apply experience, and provide solution alternatives and recommendations

  • Must have strong time management skills including the ability to work well under pressure, adapt to change, and meet established timelines

  • Must be able to develop effective relationships with internal and external contacts and work well within a team

  • Must be a self-starter

  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and have a sense of responsibility

  • Must have a “positive” and energetic demeanor

  • Must have mentoring and training skills
