The Instructional Designer for Accessibility for Assessment will report to the Director of Accessibility Strategy & Education Services (ASES) and will work to support the mission of the Accessibility Group in Pearson Assessment, supporting both School and VUE content teams.

The Instructional Designer will have the responsibility to design and develop learning and practicing experiences, work with content and user experience teams to understand accessible design, oversee the management of internal and external accessibility web sites, communications, and web hosting. The Instructional Designer will also provide project management support for assigned strategic initiatives and training efforts. The goal is to facilitate Pearson staff in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies around accessibility and developing accessible content while also supporting effective and appealing design.

Responsibilities :

  1. Collaborate with content development teams in School and VUE to adapt workflows to include inclusive design principles and practices (https://inclusivedesignprinciples.org/)

  2. Design and conduct training for content teams about accessibility and the needs of people with disabilities related to digital content

  3. Build rapport with program and product team managers to identify and document gaps in inclusive design practices, knowledge about accessibility and people with disabilities

  4. Use information from program and product team managers to prioritize, develop and deliver training, seminars, workshops and conferences to meet strategic business goals

  5. Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer to job roles

  6. Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts

  7. Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods

  8. Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process

  9. Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, etc.)

  10. Decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s retention and implementation into job responsibilities

  11. Support the research, evaluation and implementation of productivity tools and enterprise business tools for employees with disabilities

  12. Serve as the web manager of the internal and external web spaces for the Accessibility for Assessment team and coordinate the hosting of content for presentations and seminars

  13. Execute the tasks as defined in project plans and schedules in order to meet assigned deliverables

  14. Maintain project documentation and course content

Qualifications

  1. BS or MA degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar desired

  2. Minimum of three years of experience managing complex projects required

  3. Knowledge of inclusive design and accessibility standards desired

  4. Understanding of the needs of people with disabilities related to digital content

  5. Knowledge of education industry and/or assessment background desired

  6. Proven working experience in instructional design, preferably related to accessibility

  7. Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models

  8. Lesson and curriculum planning skills

  9. Intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS

  10. Basic knowledge of Drupal desired

  11. Solid knowledge of at least one Learning Management System

  12. Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Camtasia) and ability to storyboard

  13. Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts

  14. Experience with web development and site management desired

  15. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  16. Strong organization skills required

  17. Ability to adapt to the use of new business enterprise tools and to make recommendations

  18. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities

  19. Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage the acquisition of new skills as needed to meet job requirements

  20. Ability to work effectively as part of a remote team
