Pearson Cloud Cost Optimization Engineer in Austin, Texas

As a Cloud and Hosting Services Senior Developer for Pearson, you will be helping to develop and implement solutions to assist the Pearson I&O FinOps team reduce or eliminate steps associated with manual processes as well as provide mechanisms for streamlining new processes.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Collecting requirements for targeted automation projects; exploring potential solutions based on fit, up-skilling need, team skillsets, cost, and current and long-term strategies.
Fulfilling requirements by developing, implementing, and maintaining solutions following Pearson coding standards and best practices.
Building development, test, and production environments as necessary to support your and other FinOps team members’ development work.
Educating members of the team in best practice development and deployment techniques
Educating yourself on FinOps practices to recommend automated solutions and reduce toil.
Participating in team sprints and sprint planning
What Skills You Need
Software Engineering expertise
Experience developing with object-oriented programming languages (Java, Python) and understanding of appropriate use
Experience with the AWS Cloud platform and leveraging appropriate AWS services (e.g. S3, Lambda) as part of development of automated solutions.
Experience leveraging REST API for extracting and/or posting data
Understanding of database and big data management capabilities and constraints (RDBMS, NoSQL, Datalake, etc)
Self-starter who can also work with a team to deliver superior customer service
Education (or equivalent work experience)
- 10+ years’ experience in technology disciplines associated with the above skill sets
