Pearson Director, District Sales in Augusta, Maine

SUMMARY:

The Director, District Sales develops and directs the strategic acquisition and delivery of complex large district formative assessment programs to new and established customers. These duties include but not limited to designing plans to meet sales targets, developing, and cultivating relationships with clients and evaluating costs to determine formative assessment solutions pricing when selling to customers. This position interacts with senior managers, executives, and major stakeholders to establish strategic plans and objectives. The Sales Lead contributes to the overall mission of School Assessment Services by guiding activities related to Market Leadership, Employee Success and Operational Excellence.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Sales Growth and Financial Management

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve sales targets.

  • Proactively sell, build, and maintain long-lasting, strong relationships with top school districts while partnering with them to better understand their formative assessment objectives and needs to develop solutions.

  • Work with the various Vice Presidents of Business Development in Strategic Consultative Sales/Solution Selling.

  • Formulate new business opportunities, conceptualize solutions, initiate proposals, and implement plans leading to increased business for opportunities across Pearson.

  • Lead the development of presentations, proposals, contract amendments, subcontracts, and statements of work ensuring that they are accurate and completed in a timely manner.

  • Identify additional revenue generating opportunities by identifying potential scope changes to the current contract(s).

  • Responsible for financial performance objectives for assigned accounts, programs and/or markets.

  • Ensure that strategic goals and financial planning are completed on-time and accurately

  • Create and communicate sales goals and ensure School Assessment executives are informed on the progress of those goals.

  • Understand assessment-specific trends and landscapes.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Develop, promote, and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with customer staff, key stakeholders/decision makers, and strategic partners.

  • Communicate with senior customer staff to share account, program and/or market strategies and information.

  • Act in a consultative role and provide guidance towards making policy decisions and delivering on our commitments.

  • Provide leadership and engagement in addressing account or program issues that become escalated.

Technical Sales Support / Pre-sales engineering

  • Be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic formative assessment champion both externally and internally.

  • Plan and present demos of formative assessment solutions in sales and non-sales situations.

  • Technical POCs.

  • Follow technology trends to determine solution needs and strategies.

  • Strong understanding and management of Salesforce.com.

  • Support and develop other district-level partnerships related to assessment.

Marketing/Outreach

  • Plan and participate in formative assessment solution branding and client user groups and social media.

  • Plan and execute formative assessment marketing campaigns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree or Doctorate preferred.

  • Knowledge of education industry and /or assessment background highly desirable

  • Minimum 5 years of business development experience

  • External sales experience - business capture and proposal development required. Management of large complex multi-year contracts required.

  • Successful customer relationship and client negotiation experience required.

  • Effective verbal/written communication skills, strong listening, negotiation and facilitation skills and adept at presenting to groups required.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, MS Project, Visio, and PowerPoint preferred.

  • Up to 50% Travel required

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $125k - $140k.
